A/N: From the short story "Backward Boy" by Gene Coghlan. How should this continue? Any suggestions at all, I thought it'd be neat to work with someone else's idea on this.

It called on me

Above the one spring evening when

The sun's low rays were red

Behind the birches by the lake

It had a martyr's air.
