Dear Old Friend
Out comes my shirt, the writing in a row,
Names of the faces I no longer know.
Signatures of friends I used to speak
On the playground during the long school week.
A world that seems so far away,
Where the memories now seem to lay.
Where did all the fun times go?
When we used to see who's grown,
When the summers seemed to last forever,
When the only friendships we seemed to severe,
Were the ones between our baby toys,
And we didn't argue over boys.
You've changed, dear old friend,
Those times had to come to an end,
But you've not stayed true,
I don't even remember you.
You yell at me to tell me you're cool,
But why then are you skipping school?
You say they're your friends,
That you follow the trends,
I must be honest I disagree,
But why of course would you listen to me?
You say you've grown up; you've just gotten older,
And as you do your bravery gets bolder.
You complain once a day,
For you the skies are grey,
You say your wishes haven't come true,
Dear old friend, I've lost respect for you.
You still insist you're the same girl,
Whilst you wear bucket loads of pearls.
I'm very sorry dear old friend,
That this had to come to an end.
Especially one as nasty as this,
I'll admit you're one I'll miss.
But you just haven't stayed true,
Sorry dear old friend, I don't remember you.
