There are good days, and then there are bad days. It seems like most of mine have been bad lately. Well, I guess not necessarily bad but strange and cryptic. My name is Lily and I have problems. Not mental problems or anything awful, but still strange in their own sense. I am an average looking girl. Shoulder length blonde hair with bangs that sway across my forehead, brown eyes, glasses, freckles, and a hour glass figure that could put any girl at my school to shame. I'm not thin though, so I was never noticed. Never considered pretty. Usually made fun of. And those were the better days! My life started getting weird when I tuned 15, unexpected since everything in the fairytales happens in the 16th birthday. Well I'll get right to the point. This is the story of my hectic life.
It was the morning of my 15th birthday. My mom came gallivanting into my room like every other morning. Screaming, "Happy Birthday! Get up you lazy sack of shit!", while jumping on my bed and shaking me awake. Charming isn't she? Anyway, as usual I have to drag my happy ass out of bed, take a shower, and look presentable for all my friends. I slip into some fresh clothes. A new shirt my friend Atticus forced me to get because I don't dress cute enough for her, and a nice fitting pair of jeans. Also forced upon me by the very same girl. I looked in the mirror and thought, "Hey! I actually look pretty good!", which is very impressive since I never think I look good. I had a good feeling about that day and how it was all going to go down.
I ran down stairs to find all my friends already waiting for me! I was greeted my a loud "SURPRISE!". I never took surprises well. I screamed like a little girl, fell backwards onto my ass, and nearly pissed my pants all at the same time. Embarrassed and slightly dazed I stood up and collected myself. No one laughed but everyone was staring me down. I felt my face, trying to feel for any peculiar entities. Nothing felt wrong but by the way they were staring at me I would have thought someone had shaved off on of my eyebrows in my sleep. Finally someone spoke up, it was my best friend Atticus.
"What the hell happened to your hair?", she said examining me like I was some kind of specimen in a biology lab.
"What do you mean?" , I yelled slightly freaked out. I grasped at my hair like a mad woman. I was shocked! My hair had grown over night and now laid flat against my back, long enough to touch the back of my knees. How could this have happened?
"Lily? How is your hair so long? I saw you yesterday and it was shoulder length. What's going on?"
"I'm not sure! I woke up, took a shower… It was shoulder length when I took a shower! Stop looking at me like that! I'm telling the truth!"
"I'm sorry it's just that hair doesn't grow like that in 3 minutes!"
"Do you think there's something wrong with me? Could this be a medical condition?"
"Lily. I doubt it's a medical condition."
"Then what the hell is it!" I was nearly in hysteria. Everyone was still staring at me and I just kept feeling more odd. What next? Was I going to grow a second head that bobs and sings?
My mom finally intervened, "Alright! I think this is when I need to tell everyone to go home. We have a problem on our hands and you all gawking isn't going to make her feel any better."
Everyone left, taking one last glance as they went. Atticus put up a fight but finally was convinced to just go home. The whole time I had been just sitting on the couch feeling my new golden locks with heightened interest. My mom sat by me and just looked at me for a few minutes. Eventually she sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose.
"Lily. I don't know how to explain this to you. So we're just going to have to wait until 5:16 tonight. The exact time you were born. I will warn you this. Your body will be going through some drastic changes in the next… 7 hours or so. So please don't be scared. It's something that, I guess you could say, runs in the family."
