Some time ago,
Further back than any of y'all remember,
A bunch of old white guys got together;
They sat down and started talkin',
Creatin' a new way to talk to each other.
They started puttin' together letters, mashing sounds,
Makin' every word in the English language.
Then one man asked, "Now what do all these mean?"
So one by one they gave every word a definition,
And then came pain.
One man said that pain was physical suffering,
Then the next said it was an affliction, or anguish,
Then… they looked at me.
It was my turn to define pain.
So I slowly stood up, cleared my throat,
And in our common tongue began to speak.
"Pain… is loving a woman who loves another.
Pain is loving her with all your heart,
And knowing that she loves him the same way.
Pain is watching him treat her like shit,
And being there to pick up the pieces.
Pain is knowing you could treat her better.
Pain is knowing that no matter what he does,
She will always go running back.
Pain is knowing that she will never love you like she loves him.
Pain is knowing that she deserves so much more,
So much more than he is willing to provide.
Pain is knowing that he only gives enough to makes sure that she stays.
Pain is knowing that you should go,
But not being able to see your life with out her.
Pain is knowing that there is NOTHING in heaven or Earth
That will never change that.
Pain is knowing that you will always be there for her,
Even when she doesn't want you to.
Pain is knowing that you will always love her.
Pain is knowing that my heart aches,
For what it will never have.
Pain is wanting to hold in your arms,
What another man holds by the heart.
Pain is never wanting to let her go,
While knowing that he will never have to.
PAIN IS THIS STABBING FEELING IN MY HEART.
PAIN IS THE FACT THAT I STILL LONG FOR HER.
PAIN IS ME…
Pain is my existence."
Then there it was, an upcoming word:
Slowly I sat down,
And then out of the silence you heard it.
The breaking of a heart,
The falling of a tear,
The life I am living.
I then stood up and said,
"Pitiful is longing for every moment with her,
Longing even for the pain."
