Summary: I'm next, I'm not ready.
Author's Note: This is a poem about my first dance competition when I was ten-years-old. I really hope you enjoy!
Fear runs down my spine
Music blares in my ears
I am supposed to be fearless
but where is that now?
Metallic poms tight in my hands
Hair tied up into a bun
I'm supposed to be ready
but I'm not.
Heat of the lights burning my cheeks
They are bright like the sun
I'm supposed to be practicing my routine
but I'm panicking
A cheering crowd
Judges whispering into microphones
They are supposed to be focused on you,
but I wish they wouldn't
Two hundred and twenty-seven
That's me.
I'm supposed to be frightened, scared,
but I step out into the lights without fear
