Left Behind

A story about how those who act the toughest are truly those who just have no shoulder to cry on.

One day, she just stood up and left.

Amidst our protests and concerns,

She started the car and drove away.

And then I was left standing there,

Bearing the crushing weight

of cynicism upon my father.

And he will never understand

How I can miss her too,

Because now, it is my job

To turn off the porch light,

And say Mom isn't coming home.
