Just a short story I wrote last year. Reviews welcome...and appreciated ;)

"I wish I had a lighter with me." The young woman drawls, reaching for a cigarette from her purse.

As if by magic, ten or so hands reach out to light it for her. She knows she's got them wrapped around her finger – anything she needs or wants they'll get for her. It's a life of glamour and beauty, but it's also a life of loneliness. It doesn't seem that way, of course. She's got everything a girl could ever want, yet she still has that faraway look in her eyes. Her mind is elsewhere. But there's nothing she can do – giving up a perfect life for a mysterious, undiscovered world is not something she plans to do. It's almost suicide. Her family would never forgive her.

She throws the cigarette on the ground, leaving the men to follow her with their eyes as her heels tap softly along the pavement. As much as it pains her to do so, she has to go back - back to a beautiful house, a wealthy husband and the life she'd never have otherwise chosen for herself. Or, 'back to reality', as she prefers to call it.

Every few steps she takes, she tells herself she's nearly there. It's not much, but it's just enough to get her to the door of her newly built home. She walks right in, taking her shoes and coat off as if she were on autopilot. "Darling!" A well-groomed man in a suit comes up to greet her. He puts his arms around her and kisses her on the cheek. He whispers in her ear, "Did you miss me?" She keeps her eyes shut to ensure not a tear slips out. "Of course", she lies.
