We play a game of hide-and-seek

I hide, and you seek

You hide, and I seek

But lately

I've been doing far more seeking than hiding.

And I was tired

So I went off to play with the other boys

And you…

You didn't like that.

So I hide in plain sight

And I know that you see me

And you know where I am.

But it takes so long for you to decide

To saunter over

In that nonchalant, oh-so-casual way of yours

And sit down near me.

And we don't speak,

Because that would be to admit defeat.

Because we're caught in a stubborn game

For the most headstrong types of people

Who don't give in

Or surrender

And never admit things first.

So we're stuck in a game

Never going anywhere

Hiding and seeking

Basking in the beauty of dysfunctionality.
