Finding Freedom

Chapter one: Staring Danger In The Face

"Human child, what are you doing out so late?" The voice purred softly in her ear as the creature's claws stroked her soft, trembling cheek. The Feral didn't give her a chance to speak as it continued speaking. "Don't you know it's dangerous to wander into the woods alone? Tell me, what is your name?"

"M-Mia." Her voice shook as she spoke. The Feral looked down at her with its dilated, dazzling gold eyes. They were the only thing visible in the dark, shadowy forest.

"Such a pretty name." She purred. The sound rumbled through her cat-like body. She removed her claws from her face for a brief moment as she studied Mia. She blinked twice, allowing her to completely disappear until her bright eyes again turned their attention on her.

"Are you frightened?" She whispered. A deadly growl trailed her words as she waiting for an answer with large eyes.

Mia just nodded, knowing the Feral would be able to see the movement clearly, even in the blackness. She swallowed the hard lump that hard formed in her throat. Was this the end? Ferals were a cat-like race, with fur-covered bodies, ears and a tail, but stood upright like a human. They spoke human language, as well as their own. They were dangerous, stealthy, seductive, and unpredictable. They have been hunted for the last hundred years, human's intent on driving them out of forcing them to extinction. Obviously, it wasn't working too well.

"We're not all bad, you know." The Feral said as if reading her mind. "In fact," She whispered, "We can be quite pleasant at times." She blinked again and backed up. "Do you wish me to set you free, human?"

"Yes," Mia breathed, "please. I won't tell anybody you're here."

The Feral laughed, a dangerous yet attractive sound. "I'm sure you won't. But why should I let you go?" She suddenly asked Mia. "After all, your kind would never let me go."

"That's because you're killers." Mia replied. She instantly wished she hadn't said it as the feral turned her face towards hers, staring her in the eyes. She stared so long that Mia became lost in them, suddenly disoriented, and shook her head to clear her mind. The creature, however, didn't seem angry in the slightest.

"From where I stand, it seems like you are the killer, not me."

"Do I look like a killer?" She let the feral observe her. Sixteen, small framed, large innocent eyes and tattered clothing. Not very dangerous looking at all.

The feral dismissed the question with a very animal-like sounding noise in the back of her throat. Her eyes squinted slightly, and then smiled to reveal a row of pointed teeth. The sun was beginning to peek over the tree tops. As Mia began to make out her shape, she realized she couldn't be much older than herself. Her fur was a blazing red color, and her frame was thin and agile, but her stance was the epitome of danger and self-confidence.

"Human, you amuse me." A smile formed at the corner of her mouth. She reached a claw out again and pulled out a dead leaf that had been sticking to Mia's hair. The touch sent chills down her spine. One slash with them and she could be dead in minutes, the village finding her body days later, buried under feet of fallen snow. "I don't think I will kill you after all."

Mia gulped. She had been planning to?

"In fact," The Feral continued, eyes gleaming. "I think I shall keep you."

"Keep me?" Mia gasped in shock. "What do you mean?"

"Yes…" The creature mumbled to herself, a delighted look on her face. "This should be very interesting. Human," She suddenly grasped Mia by the arm fiercely. "You are mine."

Heeeyyy! What's that I hear…? I'M BACK! That's partially because I'm grounded lol, but partially because I've had an urge to start writing again for a looong time. I'm in Creative Writing 2, and it's bringing my imagination back and helping me remember my love for writing, very fast. So, here I am. ;) I hope you all like this new book. I'll be updating chapter frequently, because I've decided to right this book purely on what I LOVE to write, not necessarily focusing on the plot… xD Let's see how well this goes! (But I also wrote Erika this way too, and that seemed pretty decent. :P)

Anywho, thanks for reading and for staying my fans (If I have any left…) I love you all! (:
