Scream

I stand baptized under the windswept blue sky, and scream.

I feel it claw its way out of me, inch by painful inch. It drags its way out of my gut where it had long since settled, forcing its way through flesh and blood. It rises over the cauldron of my stomach, propelled by the scream and into the chute of my throat, slick with bile. It digs talons into the velvet of my throat, tearing at my voice as it balloons in my mouth. It slips out between my teeth, leaving a bitter taste on my tongue.

I'm disappointed that this thing that had so long been fermenting in the hollow places of my heart is invisible. Years in the darkness had bleached all color from its skin. Cocooned in the warmth of my flesh, it morphed into something alien. Something with wings, it would seem, as it flew into the windswept sky. Taunting me with its evolution into this unrecognizable thing.

What is doesn't know is that without its weight sitting in my gut, anchoring me to the dirt, I could chase after it. But I think I will just stand here, baptized under the windswept sky, and scream.
