I contemplate new starts
as if it's not already 3.54 am.
There's a cloying warmth
within my mouth and saliva
dribbles in the cage, mapping
out my tongue.
I'm hazy-eyed and halfway to
dreaming.
Hope or despair -
the crux of early morning
consciousness.
