The Melody Within
My Name is Auddessia Riley. I'm 15. I used to live with my mother in Toronto, until she died. So I've been sent out to live with my rich, estranged father. Mom never kept pictures of him around or mentioned him. I never met him. Honestly, I'm a little nervous. What if he doesn't like me or want me? Only time will tell.
-Moving Day-
I stared at the house. It was big and beautiful. I knocked. A tall man answered the door.
"ah you must be mistress Auddessia. I'm Hans, The butler. Right this way my lady." Hans showed me around. I was marvelled at by the house. We stopped at a door.
"Now you only enter this door if your father summons you."
"why?" I challenged.
"Have you ever heard what happens to a person who wakes a sleeping bear?"I nodded.
"That will happen to you. Such a terrible fate for such a promising girl."he said. A lump formed in my throat.
"Auddessia? Is that you?"I heard. I swallowed. Hans opened the door. I stepped inside. "Oh how much you look like your mother"He said. I swallowed."come closer child. I don't bite. Ah your mothers face, but my eyes and hair."he said. I nodded. I couldn't see his face. It was shrouded in darkness. My heart skipped a beat when he stood. I took note of his walking stick.
"it seems unfair that I can see your face, but not mine so I'll show you."I saw the scars. The lump returned in my throat."Pretty gruesome, isn't it?" He said.
"I've seen worse see worse every time I look in the mirror."
"Don't talk about yourself in such a manner. Self pity is a waste of emotions."he snapped. I nodded."Hans will show you to your room now."he said. I nodded again.
-Later-
I went for a walk to the library. I pondered around looking for a book I saw one that interested me. I reached for it,the same time someone else did. Our hands touched. I pulled back a bit, noticing it was a boy.
"Sorry"I said.
"T-t-that's ok"He stuttered. I bit back a laugh. I'd never heard a stutter that bad before. "what's with the stutter?"I asked.
"I c-c-cant help it."he stuttered. It was natural.
"Oh I'm sorry. Again."
"I-i-i-it's ok. People make fun of it a-a-all the time"he said. I exhaled.
"That's so cruel."I said. He shook his head. "I'm Auddy"I said.
"P-p-p-p-porter."He stuttered, clearly frustrated at his stutter. I smiled.
"Porter. I think its cute"I said. Porter held my attention for well over 2 hours.
