"Gavin, you hear her? Seven year, she says." He laughed some more before turning back to Sylvia. "Let me tell you what, for the past seven years, this guy right here, didn't stop thinking about you. Not once."

Sylvia finally reached her room after getting lost in the impossibly huge house. She was sweaty and tired after her exertion and all she wanted was to take a long, cold shower and curl up in a sofa and watch re-runs of Pretty Little Liars with her best friends. But no. Her mom was adamant on showing her off to the Sandy Springs high society and demanded her to go to the country club for dinner in the evening. Thus requiring the afternoon to be filled with buffing up and long hours in salons. Usually she'd love to spend hours at a spa but she was currently deprived of sleep and in desperate need of a off day where she can pig out and relax. She really didn't want to spend it with someone who is planning on waxing stray hair and placing clumps of goo in her hair. She exerted a loud sigh as she opened her phone to check her messages. 1 message.
Mikael: Missing u already babe.
Sylvia rolled her eyes. It barely has been a day. She quickly typed, "same" and pressed send. Stuffing her phone back into her pink Chanel flap bag she headed out to the spa. After 20 minutes, Sylvia had another reason to hate California and miss New York even more. You can't get anywhere here without a car. She had been walking for what seemed like forever, and there still wasn't sign of city life. Then she saw a group of what seemed like people her age. Picking up her speed, she walked up to them and cleared her throat.
"Excuse me, do you know how much more I have to walk before I can reach Sally's Spa?"
They turned to study her and she held her gaze. They all looked relatively normal. There were three girls and four boys.
"Yeah." The tall, smiley Asian girl responded. "Just keep going straight down and make a left."
"Thanks." Sylvia set out to leave when someone grabbed her arm. She looked at the hand shocked at his boldness.
"Hey." Sylvia focused her gaze onto the light haired boy who was studying her intensely. His eyes lightened up, "you, you're Sylvia Platt aren't you?"
"Excuse me?"
"Yeah," he leaned forward, "unmistakable, same eye color and of course y'know the mole."
Sylvia touched her mole self consciously. She wasn't particularly proud of it. The others were starting to look at her differently too. "Sorry, you know me?"
He grinned easily. "Of course I do, I'm Benny Rogers. Remember me?"
Honestly, she didn't. He wasn't particularly attractive and he didn't seem like the kind of guy she'd deal with. His entire vibe reeked "man whore" and "jock."
"Come on! We went to formal together, remember?"
Her nose scrunched up naturally. Formal? With this guy? Come on! I must've had better taste than this.
"Sorry, doesn't ring a bell."
"Benny, you got the wrong person." A red headed girl said giggling. "Anyways, Sylvia isn't supposed to come till end of senior year."
"No! It's unmistakably her!" He shook a figure next to him. Sylvia didn't notice before, but someone was sleeping on the other side of the picnic table. "Hey, man wake up." The body was unresponsive except for a small groan. "It's Sylvia, Sylvia Platt!"
With that the figure laughed, "Like I'm falling for that one Ben." Sylvia liked his voice. It was deep and husky, and made her shiver even in this weather. "No really, this time it's really her! Wake up."
He slowly pulled himself up and when his eyes connected with hers, she felt a jolt down her spine. Light blue eyes, and brown hair that was oh so subtly tousled in a very sexy way. His tank top showed off his muscular arms, and Sylvia admired the way the tank top seemed to exemplify his toned body.
"You have to remember this one. Sylvia, does he ring a bell? Gavin. Gavin Chambers. Your full time playmate." Gavin lightly punched Benny for the last word but looked at Sylvia expectantly, hope brimming in his eyes.
Sylvia's eyes flickered as she tried to respond. Gavin. Gavin was the boy in the picture. "Frog."
He smiled at that. "Yeah! We'd go frog catching."
She frowned. "No, you're the guy from the picture. The picture with the frog."
His smile faded away when she said that and he sunk back into the bench. Benny looked at her bemused. "No way! I can't believe it. Sylvia, you really don't remember Gavin? Come on! He's like your childhood love, playmate, friend, whatever you call it! You guys did everything together."
Sylvia blushed self consciously. He didn't have to make it sound so horrible. She quickly jumped to her defense, "well, it has been 7 years since I saw any of you."
Benny laughed loudly at that. "Gavin, you hear her? Seven year, she says." He laughed some more before turning back to Sylvia. "Let me tell you what, for the past seven years, this guy right here, didn't stop thinking about you."
Sylvia's gaze flickered back to Gavin who was turning a slow shade of red. He shoved Benny as he quickly looked away. The red headed girl laughed. "Gavin, I never thought you'd be the type to be shy. At least introduce yourself again if she doesn't remember you."
Gavin got control of his emotions again and with a cool smile, he extended his hand out to her.
"My name is Gavin. Gavin Chambers. Nice to meet you."
Sylvia tentatively placed her hand into his, and felt familiarity in his hold. Shaking his hand, she slowly replied, "Nice to meet you as well. My name is Sylvia Platt."
He smiled back but she saw sadness float into his eyes. "Yes, I know."
She glanced down uncomfortably as she dropped her hand. "Well, I have an appointment, so I'll be on my way now." She turned to the Asian girl again and quickly muttered thanks and walked off.
Hello darling reader! How are you enjoying the story so far? I particularly like Gavin and I'm going to enjoy deepening his character. Thanks for reading!
