Chapter 10
When the bell rang after a review to the final exam, she headed off Biology of Mythical Creatures. It was boring also because Mrs. McCloud was going over review. The topic was the differences of succubi and incubi. That ended the class with a debate from Anna who seemed to enjoy arguing with her.
Third period was too quiet to her. All they did was review and her handing in the homework that he gave them. It was annoying because Ryan decided to become who he was before she knocked the living shit out of him.
Growling to herself, she was almost thankful that the bell rang even if the incubus would be following her to study hall. Even then he was just sitting there, reading, texting, and playing games on his tablet that his parents bought him.
"Hey Alyssa?"
She thought too soon. Flipping through a book that she yanked off the shelf when she walked into the room, she looked over at him from the corner of her eye. "What Ryan?"
"Is it true that you're going out with Michael Ward?" He inquired.
Rolling her eyes, she felt his gaze on her. Looking back over to the book, she muttered, "no. Some jerk hates me, much like the entire school."
"Okay. I was kinda afraid that he would get your first time instead of me." He mumbled, even if it was loud enough for her to hear him over the music that was playing in her ear.
When the bell finally rang, much to her pleasure, she walked out to see Michael leaning on the wall with a glare focused on the incubus that was beside her. Dread started to make her stomach roll, as if she was expecting a fight to break out between them. And almost as if she was sent by some deity, Autumn joined in, kicking Skylar in the face as he held onto her leg.
"Ready for lunch when you guys are." Alyssa chimed, trying to break the intense and cold mood that was circling them.
"Fine with me." Michael and Autumn muttered in unison, causing the auburn haired senior to blink. Watching them walk away, she raised an eyebrow.
"What the hell got into them?"
Shrugging at her own question, she followed and kept the same distance that she usually kept from Michael. Her body wanted to get closer even if there was a hint of fear in her as they walked into the lunchroom. She prayed that he would calm down and get back to his usually silent self.
Flopping down in a chair, she watched as Autumn sneaked through the line that had seniors and freshman for food. Shaking her head, she looked over at the sable eyed hunter to be, she bit her tongue before it felt like it was too much. "What's your problem Michael?"
Looking over at her, his gaze almost near a glare to her, he sighed and ran a hand through his hair. It caused him to redo his hair tie but it didn't bother him as much as Ryan being so close to her. "Ryan. You and I know what he wants. I just don't trust him because of it."
"Why do all guys act like that when an incubus is around?" She grumbled, leaning back and putting her feet on the table without a care in the world. It was her last year then she wouldn't have to worry about teachers, homework, and other things associated with school.
"Did you guys know we have a new kid?" Autumn piped in, breaking the silence that was at the table as she sat down. Looking at the two, she watched as they stared at her.
"What?"
"Yeah. We have a new kid. His name is Trent, or at least that's what Mary said." Autumn answered before stuffing her face with watermelon.
It was a cookout, which allowed the succubi, incubi, and vampires out into the sunlight with the werewolves. At times Alyssa wasn't sure why vampires would do that but then again they had a blood bar to refill them before going back to class or anything like that. She and a few others decided to stay inside because it was too hot to them.
When the bell finally rang, Alyssa going for her things and going to the locker room, she felt a little at peace. There was the nagging feeling at the new student. They normally didn't allow new students so late in the year but something changed. There was something going on and she had a strange feeling in her stomach.
Getting into her gym clothes, the grey blue-eyed teen felt people staring at her. It bothered her as much as the thought of the new kid but what was she supposed to do? She normally yelled at them but she didn't feel like doing that. Shrugging on her shirt, hearing the locker room empty until she knew that there was only one other person in the room.
The same person she had been avoiding since she kissed her at Tempted. "What do you want?"
"I'm just going to tell you this once. It is taboo to be with another hunter before the pairing." Zoey's voice filled the cool room, causing Alyssa's body to react in a way that she didn't think was possible.
It felt like instead of the vampiress, it was Michael speaking to her. It had to be that. Her mind was switching the two out. It had to be because she wasn't supposed to be falling for a mythical creature. It was as forbidden as what Zoey said.
"I don't give a shit. That stupid tradition can go to hell for all I care." Alyssa stated calmly – when she didn't feel calm. Redoing her hair, she started to walk to the door with everything she needed since she was finished with her exams in Physical Education.
"You should give it attention. It'll be your downfall if you don't pay attention. As for paying attention, why have you been avoiding me?" Zoey inquired as she walked over swiftly and pinned the huntress to be to the lockers. Looking into the bluish eyes, she saw the fear in them that she recognized in them when she first kissed her.
"None of your concern."
"I think it is." The brunette eyed vampire said calmly, her face drawing closer to the huntress's. Smiling, she ran her fingers over the jugular vein. It was that high she wanted when she drank from something living instead of something like a bag or carton.
A shiver raced through her body at the touch, her gaze trying to take in the hand that was out of her sight. It pissed her off. She didn't like it. Taking a breath, she looked into the mud brown eyes and tried to convince herself that she didn't like this person. She couldn't because of the fact that she didn't run that way.
It was like since the kiss, she was trying to convince herself that she didn't enjoy the company of women instead of men. Of course there was being bisexual but she didn't want that. She just wanted to be around Michael.
"What will you do if you can't get Michael as your partner?" Zoey asked with a small smile.
"How would you know?"
"A little special gift from the deity above or something. I can read a person's mind by touching them. And if they think about something long enough. Like you're scared about being bisexual. It's amazing, the feeling you get when you kiss someone that you truly love." Zoey stated as if she was talking about the weather. Looking around the room, seeing that it was still empty, she smiled.
"I'm not bi." Alyssa argued but stopped from saying anything else when something clamped onto her lips. Staring at the vampiress that was kissing her once more, something stirred in her. It hurt to think that she was attracted to this person instead of Michael. It was like she was lying.
"Now your thinking of the feelings you thought you had for Michael. It was just a simple crush, a childhood crush." Zoey whispered, her lips fluttering pass the pale pink ones of the huntress's. Opening her eyes to stare at the grey blue ones that were misting over, she tried to smile but couldn't. "Do you want to figure out what true love is?"
Her body reacted before she could think. Nodding, Alyssa looked into the mud brown ones. It was like she didn't want to deny it anymore. She wanted to be different, even to the point it would cause her to die. "What do I have to do?"
"Nothing. Just wait." Zoey purred, her smile stretching her lips. Reaching over, pulling the huntress to be closer, she pressed her lips gently against the pale pink ones. It felt good to her, as if she didn't want to give up a thing. Snaking her hand up, the brunette vampiress felt a gasp escape onto her lips.
"Zoey . . ." The auburn haired teen was at a lose of words at the touch that the vampire gave her. Letting her gaze turn down, she stared at the hand that groped her lightly, only to add more force. "You've done this before?"
"Once. When I was in freshman year." Zoey replied with a smile, her own high reaching her. "I was bottom though. I want to see what it's like to be top."
Shaking her head, the grey blue-eyed senior pushed the lamia away from her. Staring at her, her arms wrapping around her, even if the sensations of the touch were still causing her nerves to react. "We can't do it here. We'll be found. They'll come in looking for us."
"It adds to the excitement, doesn't it?"
She wanted to nod and continue it. It felt so wrong but right to her that it was confusing. Shaking her head, she headed to the door even if her body wanted to stay there and let the lamia ravish her, showing her what she would enjoy. That was when she knew that she was attracted to both. It even felt like she was cheating on Michael when they weren't really together.
She loved that feeling – that high – that she might be caught.
When the bell rang, letting her change and head off to Social Studies that she shared with Autumn. She knew that her honey eyed friend hated her for what she did.
"You sure you want to do that?" Autumn questioned as she flipped the page so she could continue reading A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray.
"Yeah I'm sure I can do it." She grumbled back as she looked over the piece of paper that only had a description.
"Okay whatever. I'll be in the shadows to keep an eye on you . . . Skylar do your test and quit breathing down my damn neck." The huntress in training hissed softly and glared at the werewolf teen she would be graduating with.
Shrugging, Alyssa went back to trying to make something that would let her pass the time but it failed halfway so she gave up. She didn't feel creative so it must have skipped her. Slipping in her earbuds, she turned on Is This Love by Whitesnake, letting her close her eyes. Instead of picturing Michael like she thought she would, all she saw were the brunette eyes that would get a hint of red when she was thirsting for blood. "What is it Autumn?"
"I want you to go to Sheva's Night around one tomorrow."
"Why exactly?" The auburn haired senior questioned with a slight glare and eyebrow raised.
"Just go. Stop asking questions." She glared back as she watched her friend roll her eyes. "What happened to the old Alyssa that I know and love?"
"You know what happened. She died when she saved her dog." Alyssa admitted as she closed her eyes, waiting for the bell to ring. Luckily for her, it was almost the end of school. When the bell did ring, she ignored the stares she was getting from Mr. King and walked out like everyone else. It was the last day of school, she could do what she wanted as long as it didn't cause them to call the police.
Someone already pulled the senior prank that involved farm animals. It was a pain in the ass to her because everywhere she looked there was a mark that said this or that animal was around. It was funny, however, when she saw Ryan get a chicken on his head and it started to lay an egg.
After art, which made her feel like she was carrying the entire school home on her back, she was walking home. She knew what was coming up next. It was that feeling of excitement that was in her blood.
Autumn left them, letting the two stop in the same place where he kissed her that morning. This time it didn't feel so good. It felt like she was using the guy. Maybe Zoey was right; it was a childhood crush that died out finally.
"Good luck." Michael purred, his lips resting against her forehead.
"I hope so. I never been out at that time of night so who knows what will happen." Alyssa stated calmly as she reached up and hugged him quickly. She had to get ready and hope that nothing weird happens.
"So do you want to go to my place tomorrow night after the excitement or I come to yours?"
"Better be yours because they'll be having the night off so they can hear the results. Before I do, which pisses me off." The grey blue-eyed teen replied, getting a nod. It still felt like she was using the guy and she wasn't supposed to be. Taking a breath, she kissed him quickly and left. It didn't feel like heaven anymore. That hope of getting him in the selection was a dread now.
Walking in through the door, her feet slipping off her flip flops, she perked up at the smell.
"Have fun?" Her mother's voice was soothing to her rattled nerves over the drama that she had going on. Walking into the living room, she smiled as Rusty's tail was like a propeller instead of a regular dog wag.
"Long. Tests after tests. And bringing home stuff." Alyssa grumbled, showing the backpack that was on her back, making her want to fall over and become a turtle that fell onto its back.
"Go get some training in then get ready. We leave for the council in two hours." Her father ordered as he stepped into the living room, shrugging on the last of his outfit.
The first hunt outfit wasn't customizable so she couldn't do anything to it. Once you passed the test with a good enough score, and paired, you get to choose what the outfit you'll be wearing looked like.
His was mostly leather except for the jeans that were as dark as night to her. Over top his shirt was a duster jacket that reached to the floor. Unlike the outfit, you get to choose the weapon you get to use. In this case, he chose a handgun.
Her mother's outfit was a skirt that was a dark blue that could be mistaken for black. It had a cut to it that ran up to her thigh so she could run in it easier. Her top looked like it needed to be replaced but it was the way it was made. Holes of all sizes littered it, showing the fishnet and bra that her mother wore.
When Alyssa was a child, she thought it made her mother look like a whore or something along those lines. Instead, she thought it looked good on her. Her mother even chose a sword which she thought was a katana.
"I'll start with a run then." She stated with a glare settling on her father. Turning around, she went to get her regular shoes on and got out of the house. Instead of running in the direction that she used to enjoy going, she went the opposite of Michael's house.
As she thought about using him, she tried to keep out how much history was between them. Both his parents were hunters and friends with hers. That was basically how the two of them met at the age of three. Since then, they were friends until he tried to make it more than a friendship. It hurt to think that she was leading him on and was too chicken to let him now how she truly felt.
Returning home, she started to assault the dummies while her father watched, adding his input when it needed to go in.
"Raise your leg a little higher if you want to strike them in the chest." Eric raised his voice so she could hear it.
Nodding, she tried again even if she hated it when he watched. Sucking in a breath, she rushed her fist at it, seeing it caught by her father. Looking over at the man that cared for her, and abused her, she stared at the eyes that she inherited from him.
"That's enough. Go change."
Nodding, she walked to her room. It annoyed her since she hated going to see the old geezers that she thought should be dead by now. They had to be pushing hundred at the most.
Shrugging out of the clothes she had on, she tried to situate herself as she got into the top. It was uncomfortable because she felt like she was working the corner instead of going for her first hunt. It was just a cloth that covered the breasts with the rest being fishnet that wrapped around her neck. Her biceps was covered by a fishnet armlet. Another rested on her thigh while the other was on her calf.
The shirt didn't feel like a skirt but one of those long skirts that showed up the side of the legs. It felt like she was going to entertain someone that enjoyed watching wearing skimpy clothing. Everything was a shade of purple that could go for black, even to the boots that were black covered her feet.
"Ready whenever you guys are."
"Why such a fire hurry?" Her mother inquired, making her look over at the woman. Smiling a little, she couldn't believe that her daughter had finally grown up to be someone that would have this much spunk for something that she was passionate about.
"Because I want to get this over with." She stated calmly, even as her mind replayed what she did with Zoey. Shaking her head, Alyssa couldn't be thinking about something like that. Her mind had to be clear so she didn't screw up. She had to win this so she can get on with her life.
*sighs* it feels like all I want to do is work in this any more which hurts. Luckily most of my fanfics are already finished so I don't have to make them collect dust. Any who, I hope you enjoyed this chapter, especially with the teasing scene with Zoey and Alyssa. Please review.
