The music was loud and men were annoying. College parties sucked. I would never understand their appeal. People were drunk and were falling over one another. Some were attached by the mouths and others were working up to courage to attach mouths with someone else. It was disgusting.

And here was my client, of course. He sat on the couch with a beer present in his hand. His eyes kept roaming around the room. A girl here and there would catch his eye and he would smirk in her direction unbeknownst to her.

I stood by in the same room in the back corner. I was completely sober though began wishing that I wasn't. A group of guys passed by and blew a cloud of cigarette smoke in my direction. I coughed and wheezed until they disappeared. What a disgusting habit…

A blonde young girl stumbled into the room. She began laughing hysterically as her friends joined her and the proceeded to assemble in a corner.

My client's eyes were glued to that blonde girl. I smirked at him. Bingo! This was almost too easy… but there was one small problem.

There was a little brunette girl attached to my client. She hadn't let him go throughout the whole night. I believed that I even spotted her going to the bathroom with him. She seemed a bit clingy for my taste. I needed to talk to my client but she was giving me a bit of trouble in getting him alone. I really didn't want to tell him that he should go after the blonde drunk girl with his current girlfriend attached to his hip.

Still, this atmosphere was not my favorite. Guys had been giving me odd looks all night long but now that the alcohol was settling in, I was afraid they might act on those looks. I really didn't want to be hit on tonight especially by the men here.

I also finally had my client and his designated soul mate in the same room for once. I needed to act now before she began laughing again and stumbled out of the room to get more beer or something.

Suddenly a hand slipped around my waist and some guy whispered into my ear, "Hey, pretty lady".

I slapped his hand and he took it back. Quickly, I moved away from the college kid. He shrugged and walked off unaffected by my obvious rejection. There was no way I could stay in this place for long. So it was decided, if his girlfriend wouldn't move, then she would just be along for the ride.

I snuck up to the couch that the two were lounging on. I leaned over the arm and smiled toward my client. His girlfriend gave me the dirtiest look she could muster up for even daring to come close to her boyfriend. Her boyfriend, on the other hand, gave me a sly smile and a slurred greeting.

He wasn't unattractive but he wasn't a god or anything either. He had sandy blonde hair and brown eyes and seemed like he visited the gym regularly. He didn't seem like a great catch. I wondered why this girl had such an attachment to it. She was quite pretty, I thought. She had long wavy brunette hair and a sweet heart shape face –even with the glare on it. She could've easily had someone better than who she was with.

"Hello," I greeted after a moment. His girlfriend's expression darkened the longer I stayed by them. She squeezed her boyfriend to give him a clear warning that this was not okay.

"Um," he began unsure. "Can we help you?"

"I just noticed you from over there," I said pointing to where I had been standing. "You were staring at that blonde over there ever since she walked in."

His girlfriend huffed as she glanced over at the blonde in question. "Sarah? You were gawking at Sarah?!"

"No," the guy assured as he too looked over at the blonde. There was a look of longing on his face.

"You told me it was over between you two!"

"It is, Brooke!"

"Yeah right, Mike," the girl, Brooke, mumbled under her breath. "God, you are such a liar!"

I watched them bicker unsure of what to do. This had never happened to me before so it was most certainly interesting. Maybe I didn't even have to do anything? It seemed like everything was working itself out. They would break up and then he would find comfort with the blonde girl. I didn't even need to be here.

"Relax, Brooke," Mike told her soothingly. "She knows it over. I'm with you now."

"It's not her that needs to know it," Brooke replied.

"So," I muttered getting their attention. "Why were you looking at her like that?"

"Like what?" Brooke demanded. For the first time of the night, she let go of her boyfriend and pointed her glare from me to him.

The guy seemed completely helpless. He obviously was not expecting his night to turn out this way.

"Let me guess," I continued ignoring Brooke's question. "You went out with her for… a year? Then she called it off for seemingly no reason at all and it broke your heart. Then you saw her move on so you had to move on and you found this interesting piece over here." Brooke scoffed at my mention of her. "Now, you still care for her but you're in a relationship so what do you do? Am I hitting the right mark?"

Brooke glared at her boyfriend mentally telling him to choose his next words carefully.

"It was two years," he muttered under his breath.

"What?" I asked confused.

"I was with her for two years before she called it off."

I nodded with understanding. So I was right and I knew exactly how to fix it.

"You know why she broke up with you?"

Mike shook his head.

"She was testing you. She wanted you to come after her. That's the only reason she's here laughing obnoxiously loud to get your attention. She wants you still. She misses you. She never thought you would move on and it hurts her that you have or you seem to have moved on. But have you really? Do you really not want to be with her right now?"

Brooke's jaw dropped at my words. She could not believe I was meddling in her boyfriend's life no doubt. He, on the other hand, seemed completely unaware of how annoying I was being. He was taking in my words seriously and giving everything real thought.

"Why would she want to test me? We were doing just fine. She had no reason to break up with me?"

I shrugged in reply. "We're women. You'll never understand us or our actions or reasons behind them."

Mike went back to his thoughts before glancing over at the blonde.

Brooke scoffed again. "You can't seriously be considering go back to her? She dumped you! She didn't want you anymore! You're with me now, right Mike? You don't just throw away six months with someone."

I rolled my eyes at her little plea. It was useless now. I had put the idea into his head and he was going to go after his true love not this girl. Sure it was sad, but she would get over it and realize that this guy wasn't right for her anyway. It would hurt in the beginning but be better in the end.

Mike turned to his girlfriend with a sad expression. "I'm sorry, Brooke."

Brooke's face fell at his words and he quietly got up from the couch and approached the blonde over in the corner. Without saying anything, he turned her around and smashed his lips onto hers. She responded against him quickly, and they both happily made out with one another. The alcohol probably made the whole thing seem acceptable at the party.

I smiled toward them then eagerly made my exit. Finally, I could leave this stupid house party. The pounding of the music was beginning to give me a headache.

Outside, I was halfway to the curb when someone called after me.

"Hey!"

I knew instantly who it was. I turned unsurprised to find Brooke with tears streaming down her cheeks. She approached me as I crossed my arms over my chest expectantly. I just had to listen to her chew me out and then I could go home.

Ugh, home. Where Eros could then take over with the chewing out and tell me how wrong I did my job. My job was always done though! I didn't know why he complained so much about me. Sometimes, I just wished I had somewhere else I could go. Olympia seemed to be the only place I was allowed.

Brooke wiped her tears away as she got closer and jabbed me with an accusing finger.

"You bitch!"

Well, that was original. I only raised my eyebrow in response.

"Why do you have mess around in my life? I was happy with him! He was happy with me! And now he's making out with that blonde whore! How dare you?"

I had no idea what she wanted to hear from me. "Sorry?"

Apparently that wasn't it.

"You're sorry? Sorry? That's it? How can you just break two people up like that? How can you put those ideas into his head without feeling guilty about hurting other people? I've never been so embarrassed in my life! All those people in there just saw him cheat on me right in front of my face!"

"For the record," I began. "That looks bad on his part, not yours."

"Tons of people just say me bawl my eyes out because I can't keep a man!"

I waved her away. "Those people are all drunk beyond recognition. No one is going to remember a thing from tonight."

Brooke didn't like my logic.

"You're still a bitch."

"I'm sure I get that a lot," I replied. "Sorry, it's just what I do."

"Ruin people's lives?"

"You're life isn't ruined! That guy was clearly not right for you. If he would just dump you at the drop of a hat, then it's not going to work out in the end. It's better you find out now than later on down the road when you guys are in deep. So you should be thanking me!"

"Why?" Brooke challenged. "You've done nothing for me but embarrassed the hell out of me."

"Such is life, kid."

"Kid?"

I was definitely older than her but there was no way I could tell her that without sounding weird. I didn't appear much older.

"Yeah, what are you 21-ish? And let me guess here, this is your third boyfriend or so? Your first one cheated on you and the second didn't spend any time with you. This one you had to hang on to really tight to make sure nothing happened, right? You just didn't count on him being in love with his ex still. Or actually, you suspected it but he told you differently and now you're just mad you didn't see this coming, right? So go back to the party and drown your sorrows with a fruity little drink or something."

Brooke narrowed her eyes. "How do you know so much?"

I smiled. "It's my job. I'm just good at reading people. Now have a good night!"

Turning on my heel, I walked off to the curb. I had to summon the cab that would take me up to Olympia. It was some new system of travel that Olympia was trying. It was much more subtle than the chariot rides.

"Wait!" Brooke called out. She caught up to me over at the curb. "Are you psychic or something?"

I faced her and looked her dead in the eye. "I'm the granddaughter of the God of Love. I am trapped here on Earth and cannot return to be with my grandfather until I have matched everyone with their designated soul mate here in the New York area."

I expected her to burst out laughing since it seemed like an unbelievable story and it was mostly made up. I was the granddaughter of the God of Love but I could go back to Olympia whenever the heck I wanted to.

"I don't believe you," Brooke said simply.

I shrugged unaffected by her words. "Then why would I bother meddling in your life? Or more specifically, Mike's life?" I pointed over to a big window on the house that showed the room where we had been just a few minutes before.

Brooke could clearly see her now ex-boyfriend and his ex-girlfriend making out still. She looked down at the ground and thought for a moment.

"So… you're telling the truth?"

I brought a finger to my lips. "Shh, no one can know."

Just then, a familiar yellow cab pulled up to the curb. I opened the door and climbed inside. Brooke called out before I could close the door though.

"Wait! What about me? You haven't found my soul mate yet!"

I smiled at her. "No, I have not. You may see me again or you might not but just know that I will be around, helping from the shadows."

Brooke seemed confused by my cryptic message. I couldn't believe that she was falling for all of this bull.

"What's your name?"

"Peyton," I answered. "I'll see you around, kid."

Brooke gave me a small smile as I closed the door. The driver turned around and raised an eyebrow.

"Who was that?"

I waved to her as the cab began to drive off. I shook my head at his question. "Just some poor girl I'll probably never see again. No big deal."

"Should you have told her all of that?"

Shrugging, I responded, "She'll forget about it. They always do."

SO sorry this chapter is late! It's still Sunday for me though so: Happy CC Sunday! :D

Brooke! There she is and that is how she met her! Most of you already know how it happened but know you see the details of it and everything.

I would love to tell you what the next chapter is going to be about but I will not. It'll be a surprise! No Nate and more Peyton's POV and Brooke but a surprise still! So, be excited!

Funny how things have changed from this time to the time that we have read about!

Hope this update was worth it. It was fun to write! Thanks for reading!

Hope you enjoyed!
