Poems are like arrows, flowing through the air,

I shoot them one by one, here and there and there.

From fields to fens they fly, to lands I know not where.

"Nor care," say I. (but you know this for a lie)

If by chance you catch one, hold tight, but beware;

Every point is precious, every word is dear.

There are stories in these shafts, longing to be shared.

"Have no fear," say I, "and let those arrows fly!"

Pluck them from the ground, and string them each with care,

Go shoot them one by one, there and here and here.

From fens to fields they fly, to lands you know not where.

From fields to fens and back again. We fly, you and I.
