That's What's Wrong Here- Lists and Rants 2 by Night On the Sun.

Author's Note: Alright, I was originally going to make a lot of one-shot lists/rants, but I decided to make one long story, each chapter focusing on something different.

Explanation and Introduction: Hello. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sarah, otherwise known as Night On the Sun. Now, I'm not an angry person, but there is a large list of things that anger me. Below you will find one of them.

This list and/or rant is all about rap and modern pop music. You know how they are. So sit back, relax and enjoy. That's What's Wrong Here-Lists and Rants 2 by Night On the Sun.

Alright. I was going to start this list/rant off with some rap lyrics, so I googled "lil wayne lyrics" and clicked on the first thing that came up. It was "Lollipop" by Lil Wayne. I then decided not to copy and paste the lyrics for several reasons

I couldn't find a part that really stood out from the others

All the lyrics were vulgar and plain stupid

I was stunned that people actually listened to this.

I mean, really America? This is what we call talent? I just-I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that this man has a career. I mean, this man is payed for this, he put hardly any effort into it (if he did write it) and there isn't any music, just a crappy synthetic beat. This goes for pretty much all, or most popular music today. I'm just in shock.

You know how I said I wasn't going to post any lyrics? I lied. Here are some lines from "Last Friday Night" by Katy Perry:

There's a stranger in my bed,
There's a pounding in my head
Glitter all over the room
Pink flamingos in the pool
I smell like a minibar
DJ's passed out in the yard
Barbie's on the barbeque
This a hickey or a bruise?

Aside from the overwhelming stupidity of the lyrics, this song wasn't written by Katy Perry and the music is fake and repetitive. Now, here are some lyrics from a song I like, "Dramamine" by Modest Mouse:

Traveling, swallowing Dramamine
Feeling spaced, breathing out Listerine
I'd said what I'd said that I'd tell you
And that you'd killed the better part of me
If you could just milk it for everything
I've said what I'd said and you know what I mean
But I still can't focus on anything
We kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves!

Now, does this make total and complete sense? No. But, this is what I like about it. Anyone who listens to this song can interpret it their own way. To top it off, this song was written by the three Modest Mouse band members, and it uses electric guitar, bass guitar, and drums. Nothing computer-generated at all.

So, I know what you're going to say, "but sarah, last friday night is suposed to be a fun song to dance to at the clubs lol" Than why is it played on the radio? I'm fine with it being played at some club. It's energetic, fast music. But once Katy Perry is considered an artist, it's not fine. This woman can sing. That's about it. She is not an idol, she is not an artist. And I don't want to hear anything about "girl power" either. I'm a girl, and so long as the guys I know don't degrade me for being a girl, I'm fine with it. I don't need Katy Perry to try to be "empowering" in one song, because the next second, she's singing about drinking and sleeping with strangers.

All I want is for "musicians" to put effort and emotion into their songwriting, rather than be praised for a total piece of dog crap that is pumped out by deadbeats in a recording studio. (Challenge for the readers: Listen to Lollipop by Lil Wayne and see how long it takes before you throw up.)
