Chapter IV: To Prevent A War
I was back in my own dimension. I laid Dashiell's body on the ground. I looked the weapons over. The magic within them was indeed strong. It took a while, but the G2 wore off. My grey scaly hands turned back to human flesh, the wings disappeared, and my clothes returned to my body. I was proud of that fact, for I had invented the additive to cause the potion to reform a wizard's clothes. Before that, a wizard returned to his human form naked and that can be embarrassing in public. I walked over to Dashiell Andrews's crumpled up form. I examined him. He was alive, but he was basically comatose. The whack on his head took a lot out of him. The Crystal of Liberty's power must have been overstated. With this thought in mind, I searched his neck and found nothing hanging around it. Perhaps, the Crystal of Liberty fell off while we were caught between Troll Land and our own reality. This happens sometimes. There wasn't any time to think about this, there was a war to prevent. I walked into my workshop, got out the box of sea salt, and threw a handful on Dashiell's body.
"Let his body return to the Hall of Wizards." I spoke aloud.
Dashiell's body disappeared and went the Wizards' realm. The Society will be able to take care of my old school chum better than I could.
I reached down and picked up the short sword of Lewis Wetzel. I hooked the sheath to my belt and placed the tomahawk in my safe.
Sarah's eyes were glued to the television set. She was watching some kind of reality show. Hell, unreality is more like it. Anyone can see that those damn things are scripted and rehearsed.
"So you have the weapons, my dear?" asked my secretary.
"Yes. Dash got whacked over the head; it seems that the Crystal of Liberty fell over his neck while we were traveling in the trans-dimensional gate. I'll be leaving now. I have to return to the speakeasy and kill that twelfth level vampire."
Sarah smiled and spoke: "If you must go and be a hero, take this."
She untied a golden chain from around her neck and threw it towards me. I caught it and stared at the object hanging on the chain – the Crystal of Liberty.
"You stole this from Dash when you hugged him."
"Are you pissed at me?"
I smiled at her. It had been a very productive day. On top of having Lewis Wetzel's weapons, I had an object that would increase my strength a thousand fold.
"Nope. When I return, we'll talk about our future babies."
Sarah smiled up at me. Hell, she was too valuable of an asset not to keep happy. Besides, after seeing her with Dashiell, I had made up my mind not to let another man have that which belonged to me.
In a blink of an eye, I was back to the speakeasy. This job was going to be pretty easy. I had the short sword in my hand as I approached the bouncer. He was another werewolf that lost his head –literally. I didn't have to wait long for the big shot vampire to appear.
"Well, Mr. Race, you must have big hairy balls to try the same stunt twice."
I laughed: "Before I kill you, tell me your name."
The big man shrugged his shoulders and replied: "Why not? Only I will be killing you. It's Donovan O'Brien."
The name was impressive. O'Brien had killed many Americans in his day. He had once worked for the British during the War of 1812 and he advised Adolf Hitler during World War II.
Donovan moved so fast, for a brief span of time, I thought the sword blade would be useless against him. But his head fell from its shoulders and his body turned to dust, leaving only his top hat behind.
