The Music Of Rain

In the time before people, when Mother Earth was still young; there was no thunder and lightning with a storm, only Rain.

Now Rain became lonely, because there was no one to play with, and enjoy her storm with her. Only Rain seemed to enjoy the music of the rain that she made. And so Rain stopped bringing storms, and she stopped raining. She wandered Mother Earth lonely and depressed. Mother Earth noticed that Rain was no longer performing her job, so she found Rain and scolded her.

"My precious plants are dying, and my animals complain of thirst. Rain come do your job and make it rain again," Mother Earth said, rebuking Rain for laziness. Rain, ashamed, tried to make the joyful music of a storm, but she was still lonely and all that came was the sad music of mist and fog.

Mother Earth was content for a time with the mist, but soon she realized that the mist was not enough. So she went back to Rain and asked her, "Why are you only making the sad music of fog and mist? What is bothering you dear one?"

"Oh Mother Earth, no one can hear the music like I can, and make it with me. I'm all by myself, and the sad music is the only thing that comes," Rain replied sorrowfully.

And then Mother Earth understood; did she not make the plants and animals to keep her company? "I will make you companions to share the music with Rain." So Mother Earth made Rain a sister, Lightning, to dance with the music and a brother, Thunder, to sing with the music. And together the storms were never the same and Rain was never lonely.
