Remember

"Don't go near that cat,"

She warns

steering me away from the bundle of black fur

laying in the sun on the wall.

I stare back at it as

We hurry away.

Tonight

The moon glows

Big

Round

Luminous.

"Don't go outside,"

She chides

Telling me that the witches will

Take me away.

As I pull my costume over my head

As I lace up my shoes

As I paint my face

I remember

And wonder what her reaction will be

When I come downstairs dressed like this

Ready for another Halloween

Only this time

I grab my broomstick before heading downstairs.
