Hey! This is my first fictionpress. I have written a few stories on fanfiction, but this is my first original story I've ever put up online! I'm sorry that the chapters are so very short but I will try to update often to make up for it. Hope you enjoy!
The quiet around me is endless; an utterly deafening silence. I stare at the pale freckled face before me, adorned with a light layer of snow. A single word echoes over and over from my frozen lips.
Why?
The coppery hair whips in the strong winter wind, bluish mouth slightly opened. It is the simple magnificence that had drawn me in from the very beginning. His chest rises and falls at an alarming pace, and it kills me to know that, however hats I try, I can do nothing to preserve the life of the one I love.
But things weren't always this way. Six months ago, my life was simple, plain. Then HE came along and everything changed...
"Melissa! James! Wake up! Breakfast will be ready in five!" I hear my mother's familial yell. I open my eyes drearily to see the pale blue, undecorated walls of my new bedroom. My new home is a little cozy house in Delaware. My blankets are piled at the foot of the bed, because I have not yet made friends with this cold weather.
Today is the first day of school, my sophomore year. Leaving Texas wasn't easy, but I think that my whole family wanted a fresh start, especially me. I have vowed to no longer be the girl in the shadows, the one always reading, unpopular. This is my chance.
I run a thin hand through my unruly auburn hair. The reflection in my mirror is frightening. I grab for my favorite sea green brush and somehow make my hair look presentable. After a few minutes with my friend Mr. Straightening Iron, I deem my hair neat.
I walk down the carpeted steps slowly, savoring the luscious scent of my mother's pancakes on the air. My seventeen year old brother pushes me into the wall in his rush of hunger, like always. Meat head. I give his back a sharp glare as I continue strolling to my delectable breakfast.
"'Morning!" My mother greets cheerily, beaming. She is dressed in a set of light blue scrubs, ready for her new job as an oral surgeon at Grape Valley Dental Center. I return her smile and eat voraciously.
I look down at my watch and see that there are only a few minutes until the bus will arrive. I run back up to my room and carefully put on the outfit that I had chosen weeks in advance, a flowing powder blue blouse, paired wig navy blue skinny jeans and flats the same color as the shirt. If you haven't guessed, my favorite color's blue.
I put on a light dusting of makeup. I look in the mirror one last time and smile.
"Lissa! Your bus is here!" James yells from downstairs and I rocket to the door. Backpack in hand, I grab he handle of the door and head out to where the ugly yellow vehicle awaits. I see James get into his truck and drive off.
The ride is loud. I inconspicuously, but still thoroughly inspect my classmates. Designer clothes all around make me feel insignificant. Most of the girls' faces are covered in heavy makeup, whereas majority of the guys are practically dripping cologne. I wonder off in my mind. My recurring daydream of published authordom waits.
I am lurched back to reality, literally, as the bus pulls into the school's parking lot. The kids stand, still chatting. They are even louder, if that is possible. We swarm out of the bus and I see the place I will be learning for the next three years- a.k.a. - my chance.
I walk in the front doors and immediately see the front office. I walk in and get my schedule from a nice old woman, the receptionist. Ooh, first period reading!
I find my way down to room 217 and walk in. A young brunette woman I assume is the teacher writes on the chalkboard.
I find a desk near the back of the room and sit, waiting for the bell. I glance at the door as I hear the shrill BRINNGGG of the bell. Suddenly the door opens and my world stops.
A boy stands there, slightly tousled auburn hair almost the same color as mine. He is lean, bit muscular, like a runner, maybe. His skin is fair, but with that glint of tan. A few freckles are dotted across his slender nose, and his eyes... they are a magnificent green, with specks of blue, the most perfect color ever.
He is wearing a simple blue button up shirt, bringing out his eyes. "Sorry," he says apologetically to the teacher. She gives him a skeptical look and points to the last open seat. The one right. next. to. me. My breathing quickens.
He makes his way back, taking a seat. He gives me a kind smile. I think I stop breathing. "Hey, Red, I'm Will. Are you new?" He asks, still smiling.
"Y-yeah," I stutter stupidly. "I-I'm Melissa, uh, Lissa for short! I just got here from Texas!" I choke out. I have no idea where the sudden words come from, but I add, "Who ya callin' Red, Carrot top?"
He laughs and it is the most alluring sound I've ever heard.
"So, Lissa, how do you like it here so far?" Will asks.
"I like it, but it's a little cold for my taste... then again, I'm used to eighty-five every day," I reply, giggling like a freakin' IDIOT.
Thank you so much for reading. So sorry if it is not all perfect in grammar; I haven't had much time to check over it. Also I use semicolons a lot. You have been warned. I will update as often as possible and reviews are greatly appreciated. Please give constructive criticism but please no flames. Thanks!- Abby;)
