Leaves grow on the trees
green as grass in spring,
living with health and life
to be a living leaf

leaves get lots of sun
to bring to the tree
still enough water to
be a living leaf

when the cold strikes
the leaves begin to fade

slowly one here and there,
drop dead and fall to the ground
like a colored carpet of destruction
no longer a living leaf

the leaves are covered in an icy blanket
of snow and frost in the night.
There the leaves lay forgotten
Never to be a living leaf.
