The past has stretched thin over me

As I have outgrown its protection.

I've stitched and patched the memory

Until it's almost an illusion.

I hang this ragged love, a sorry screen

Around our precious time, less than a week.

And always, in the silent space between

The indrawn breath of one about to speak.
