This is a poem I wrote, when I was in Colorado and we were hearing about the forest fires in California and Utah.

Purple mountains rise up
Before me, so sudden.
Miles and miles of no service,
Finally I've reached the payoff.
Only to find it diluted
By the smokes of today.
Newscasters worry,
They talk about the unique color
But what are the fires really doing?
How are they really effecting our mountains?
And I wonder what it would have been
Like to see these monarchs
Before they were swallowed by haze
I wish the few hours of clarity
In the dawn
Would last forever
So everyone could marvel at their beauty.
