Turtles, All the Way Down
Underneath the stars, a world
Underneath a world, the atmosphere
Underneath the atmosphere, a cloud
Underneath a cloud, the sky
Underneath the sky, a bird
Underneath a bird, the trees
Underneath the trees, a head
Underneath a head, the brain
Underneath the brain, a consciousness
Underneath a consciousness, the subconscious
Underneath the subconscious, a dream
Underneath a dream, the heart
Underneath the heart, a hope
Underneath a hope, the reality
Underneath the reality, a truth
That
Underneath a truth, the rules
The rules that mean nothing
Underneath a freedom
Because
Underneath a freedom, the dead
Underneath the dead, a crust
Underneath a crust, the mantle
Underneath the mantle, a core
Underneath a core, the mantle
Underneath the mantle, a crust
Underneath a crust, the ground
Underneath it all, a turtle
Because in the end
It's always turtles
Turtles, all the way down.
