Prologue

Claire Morris is not like other girls, in high school; in fact she can see the dearly departed, otherwise known as ghosts. She had this gift, ever since she got a minor concussion in a car accident, which had killed her parents, over a year ago. Claire was so devastated by the deaths; she was in a stress-induced comatose state, for several weeks after the accident. Claire claimed that it was her parents' ghosts that brought her back to Earth. The doctors and nurses thought it was survivor's guilt, and denied her claims.

As a result from losing her parents, Claire was sent to live in Vermont with her Aunt Beatrice and her Uncle Claude. Both we're the doting type, to Claire, as they never had a child of their own. At first Claire was happy to be loved, by her foster parents; however, overtime they grew distant of each other, when the ghosts in the house they lived in started to haunt Claire, causing her to eventually losing her grip of sanity.

At first Beatrice and Claude thought Claire was acting that way due to stress caused by losing her parents, but the so called stress turned to what they thought was self-mutilation. But in reality, it was the ghosts that done the damage; they didn't believe Claire. So they sent her to see Dr. Moss, a psychiatrist who specialized in grief counseling, and adolescent psychiatry. But despite all sessions, of Claire claiming that her parents died on her account; it did nothing to help Claire at all, even the medication acted more like a placebo to her, and one time Claire dumped the medication down the drain, in which Beatrice saw her do it, unknown to her at least.

Now her foster parents are at wits end, of Claire's erratic behavior, and they want to help her at all costs. Just recently Dr. Moss had suggested something that would help Claire with her antisocial and schizophrenic behavior: institutionalization at Westmore Home for the Insane, in upstate New Hampshire, in which it was the top ranking asylum in New England.
