The person we are going to marry is on this earth right now. You could walk by them in the park or talk to them in the line at Wal-Mart. You meet them by complete accident. Not planned. Well maybe not everyone but that's how I met my husband. Everything in life happens for a reason. I gave Ben my number for a reason even though at the time it was just he was cute and nice plus I was 12 and yet another cute guy was hitting on me, but he was different. We all know the best in life isn't planed.
It was a month until school starts and Jennifer, Thalia, and the girls were all at the mall. They were expecting to meet the guys there soon. Thalia was especially happy to be able to see Jorge again; she hadn't seen her boyfriend in over 3 weeks. Avery couldn't wait to see Ned, her long time crush. Jenn and the other girls had an inkling he was going to ask Avery out today. Jenn, Julia, and Samantha had no boyfriends or crushes. Jenn was long over Smith so she was okay with Jorge, her best friend, and Ned, a close friend.
Once the guys got there they all went to eat because no one had eaten since morning. In line for Chick Fil-a, a guy, soon to be known as Ben, tapped Jenn's shoulder and asked her age. Jenn told him her age was 12 soon to be 13, this struck up a conversation. He introduced himself as Ben and while waiting for each of their foods he finally asked for her number. Jenn being intrigued by his personality and well she can't deny his looks, gave him her number and went with her friends. Once with her friends she told them all about him and the guys wanted to know if he'd done anything they needed to know about, typical best friends.
As they finished buying their movie tickets and were walking Jorge decided to poke her in her tickle spot, because Thalia had put him up to it. Jenn jumped and laughed along with her friends and ended up running into some guys. Jenn was a beautiful girl so she got hit on a lot. These guys hit on her as she expected but seeing she was annoyed they left.
"Seriously I am so tired of this," Jenn complained to her friends.
"Of what being hit on by amazingly hot guys?"Julia sarcastically remarked. Sam and Avery agreed.
"Well yes if you put it that way, at least Ben had a conversation with me… he was nice and hot," Jenn swooned.
The minute after she said that, she got a phone call from an unknown number. She picked up and said, "Hello,"
Ben's voice sweetly rang into the phone, "Just making sure it was a real number."
"Would I give you a fake number?" Jenn flirted.
"Well I don't know, would you, all I know is that you are an amazingly beautiful girl who I was lucky enough to give my number to," Ben flirted right back , " I have some friends here with me do you mind if we come and hang out with you guys?"
After Jenn asked her friends if it was okay and after Sam and Julia started wondering if his friends were cute she agreed and met them at the carousel. Once there Ben's friends started hitting on Sam and Julia. Jenn and Ben started talking and flirting. Thal decided it was time for a girls meeting so all the girls went to the restroom to talk.
Once they were all back all the guys surprised the girls with tickets to get on the carousel. Ned surprised Avery with the question to be his girlfriend of course she agreed. On the carousel Ben told Jenn he wanted to see her again and Jenn asked what school he was going to for 8th grade and to her surprise he said Lanier Middle.
Apparently Ben and his guys had bought the same movie tickets and were going to watch with them. As expected Jorge and Thal started kissing in the mushy parts just as Avery and Ned did. Sam & Julia were flirting with their guys. Ben had put his arm around Jennifer and was staring into her eyes and what it looked like was he was going to kiss her, and then the movie had an explosion. What a perfect way to ruin the perfect moment? It's okay though because moments later they shared the perfect kiss maybe a little early, but it was the first date that was totally accidental.
We all know that the best in life isn't planned. Ben and I weren't and now we've been together since that faithful day with our fair share of fights but we are still that much in love. It's now 9 years since we met and we're getting married.
What do you call something like this fate, destiny, or my choice to give him my number and his to call me? Our choice to make that our first date and kiss? Who knows but what I do know is that I regret nothing from that summer. Nothing.
