Aloft

I cannot see the sun

for the lush green canopy above me.

Though I am one who is comforted

by the coarseness of the bark,

it is dark beneath these outstretched branches.

How ungrateful am I?

That, even while I apologize

for my transcendental transgressions,

I should like to recline in an even loftier bough.
