Prologue:
The vampires of human myth are only that: myths. Real vampires are neither cursed nor damned. They are merely talented. Extremely so, in most cases. They are not only gifted with preternatural senses, strength, and speed, they are also born immortal and with certain innate gifts. Where any of these gifts originate is anyone's guess.
Some believe that vampires are their own race. That they were born at the beginning of time and have evolved throughout the years. However, most vampires tend to believe that the vampire species is an off-shoot of a different species. Supposedly created at the beginning of time were demons, long-lived blood drinkers with preternatural abilities and even occassionaly gifts like telepathy or even control over the elements. According to this belief, vampires came to be when certain gifted demons bred with talented humans (who may have had a sun allergy), creating a subspecies which eventually evolved into the current vampire.
Whatever was the true beginning of the vampire race, one thing was known; the beginning of the Vampyr monarchy. It was a tale told to every vampire child throughout Romania.
Thousands of years ago, the vampire species existed without any form of ruling body. Many believed that they did not need such a thing. However, many, many others wanted power or, the more noble, wanted to unite the scattered race. Factions arose and fought against each other, but no clear winner could ever be decided. Then up rose Dehayrian Vampyr, the only vampire ever known to possess all known abilities: telepathy, telekinesis, coercion, hypnotism, heal, harm, fire, water, earth, air, and even the weakest yet often most useful, weather. The support for him grew and, eventually, he became King Dehayrian, the first Vampyr king. The male line has never been broken; even know, King Kayedeon Vampyr sits upon his throne at Castle Vampyr.
This is not Kayedeon's story. As the living king, it is not his story that is at risk of being forgotten. As so often happens throughout history, the true stories of those gone by are lost to the ether. Though the legend of Dehayrian Vampyr exists, nobody living knows his true story. Many other great tales have been lost as time goes on.
This is the story of a different one of Kayedeon's predecessors, his grandfather, Alyxzandyr Vampyr. Alyxzandyr lived a short life, but he also lived a story that should be remembered forever.
