My finger's bare;
still haunting me from there.
Cash passed from hand to cashier
for something that didn't come out of the fridge.

I just need to ask, I just need to know
to battle the hurt that vexes me so.

Suffering, but it's all in my head;
made-up injustices, I guess.
Just to get what? Some attention?
Maybe all of this is just my need.

I just need to ask, I just need to know
to battle the hurt that vexes me so.

Swallow back the question,
because I know it won't be heard—
not for what it truly is…

My finger's still bare—
just never enough to go around;
but we can pass out our favours
when we've a mind to,
consequences be damned.

I just need to ask, I just need to know
to battle the hurt that vexes me so.
