Forgotten
She once looked up to her older brother
Though later she'd laugh at her innocence
Laugh to show she could to others
And laugh to fill her head with sense
How could no one before see the cracks?
They encrusted her face, sharp and rigid
Constricted her thoughts and made her sick
She weeps inside to herself, and later laughs
Is it clear now that she is no longer a kid?
Not for her age or for her appearance
But for what she keeps secret to herself close to her chest
What she squeezes tightly in one hand
And later holds out as if to test
See how many mistakes she can think of in one hour
Before her walls crash to reveal her coward
The her that's too afraid to tell her brother it hurts
That he can't even love them anymore
Just like with their father she'll be forgotten
Only this time she'll be the only one crying
Her pillow will lay wet in the morning
And only mirrors will bear witness the inner turmoil
But how does she go on without getting found out?
When with each hour the anguish grows even louder?
To shield the truth from kicking her in the gut
She weeps silently to herself and later laughs
And that's something they'll never get a chance to grasp
Because she knows so surely they won't even be turning back
