The Life and Death of Adonis Jay

Summary True story of part of my life

The first time I met Adonis Jay I was twenty years old and he was one that was four years ago, he was going by the name Binky at the time, and the moment I saw him I knew I would love him forever. If your wondering why any parent would name their child Binky well the truth is Adonis Jay was a cat, a beautiful black cat with white paws and amber eyes.

Growing up I had two cats Licorice a orange tabby that my mother had gotten as a mother's day present and Bailey Lucifer a cream Burmese that my parents bought me for my thirteenth birthday. Anyways back to the story, as I was saying I met Adonis Jay at a pet fair hundreds of stray cats, dogs and other critters were being placed for adoption, and Adonis Jay was the first pet to adopted that day . When we took him home he was a perfect lover, cuddling and sweet but most of all very quiet.

The reason I adopted this beautiful boy was because I was moving out of my parents home into my first apartment which was on the twelve floor, after the third month I was walking to the movie store to rent a movie to watch, that evening it was pouring rain, I stopped along the way when I saw a crowd of people peering at a box of soaking wet kittens, two of the kittens had died and the others were crying pitifully at the people, knowing that the humane society and animal control killed animals that didn't get adopted. Grabbing the scruffy looking kitten I took him home later naming him Oliver twist, for the movie Oliver and Company that was based on the book Oliver twist. This scrappy looking fellow was so adorable I couldn't part with him. Adonis Jay was the sweetest big brother to Oliver twist since Oliver was separated from his mother he had a habit of suckling from Adonis and many of my friends joked that Adonis was a true Mister Mom

I was now the proud mother of two furry kids as I called them, Oliver and Adonis both grew into fine gentlemen, the two of us live happily for two years, that is when in the coldness of January I found Lilly Belle, this newborn kitten and her litter mates were thrown in the garbage like a piece of trash , her mother's dead body laid next to her kittens out of the eight kittens that I saw only Lilly Belle survived. Taking her inside for warmth I called upon my friend to help me nurse her back to full health the first couple of days was the hardest but by some miracle she made it though.

Now Lilly Belle was my first female cat ever and I was quite nervous my mother told me when she was younger that she had a very nasty female and I feared the same thing was going to happen to Lilly Belle, but as she is curled up in my lap I know this to be false. The proud pet parent of three cats I couldn't believe how lucky I was, I had a happy little family of my own. But sadly Oliver Twist was too destructive to live in apartment, and the man who adopted him from me recently lost his own cat and he and his wife were looking to find a new cat, Oliver was just perfect for them.

Then it happened moving from my apartment my step father removed the air conditioner, I told several times that my friends would do when they came to help me move in the next couple days but he didn't listen. Leaving the window open just enough for the air to come in and out I was in the shower when I received the call. My building manager called me saying that they found a black injured cat but they didn't know where he had come from, Racing around my apartment I could not find Adonis Jay fearing the worst I ran down the hallway and waited impatiently for the elevator, once getting to the first floor I was led into a elder woman's apartment and it happened my little boy was lying there in puddles of his own blood crying out in pain. I feared just touching him would cause him more pain, I frantic called my step father begging him to help me take to the Emergency animal hospital, as I wait for him to arrive I knelt down whispering I'm sorry to Adonis, I didn't know how long I repeated myself but soon I felt my step father's hand on my shoulder he said he would do his best and then took Adonis Jay away I never felt so sad in my life. Calling my best friend up I told her what happened and she came racing over, moments later I received a call Adonis Jay didn't make it to the hospital and I knew I was lost.

Falling into a depression I was moving though the motions, unable to feel anything but numbness, it wasn't until that winter I saw something truly amazing, living in my new apartment which was on the first floor I saw a little black squirrel with white paws hanging out by my window. And I knew it was Adonis Jay coming to say good bye, this little fellow stayed though the winter until the next fall the last moment I saw him I smiled and whispered thank you.
