Chapter 10: Putting the wheels into motion
Zack hadn't expected to get word from his reaper so soon. If at all. He told himself he didn't care, that she was just another tool for him, a means to and end. He just needed people like her, desperate, angry, craving the revenge he could utilize. But the white envelope in his hand, with her beautiful cursive on it, affected him more then it should. He ripped it open without ceremony, wanting to know that his little phoenix, his little reaper was doing in her task.
Zack
I arrived not too long ago. My town is now hidden beneath a thick blanket of mostly untouched snow. It's a relatively small town, and the only hotel in my price range would definitely recognise and remember me. I'm staying in the woods, not to far from where we used to meet, back before it happened and things got complicated.
I know it's ridiculous to be scared, to be nervous and apprehensive about what I have to do. I know it is just, that in this world violence can only be met with violence because they do not understand peace and free will. Perhaps they do in a sense, but soon they will know that what they did took what little free will I had left from me.
I've thought a lot about how I was going to go about this. Who was I was going to target first? Whether or not I should go straight for the head, so the body flounders in a sense, or work my way up the hierarchy. I figure I should work from the bottom to the top, make those who led the attack know I am coming for them. Know the grim reaper in its black cloak is creeping ever nearer.
But I want to say thank you now, just in case something goes wrong. Thank you for helping me, and for all you will help me with. You said you could get me out, that you could get me on a supply ship to one of the other countries, and I want you, I need you to come with me. In the aftermath it wont be safe anymore for you, even in that isolated little beach hut you call home.
Come away with me.
I have to go now, to start my mission and to mail this for you, it's getting dark and it's starting to get dark and I'm going to have along night ahead of me, I have to be done and gone before the sun rises.
So goodbye my friend, I hope to get to see you soon.
Love,
The Reaper.
Zack shouldn't had been affected by this pleading letter. He shouldn't have felt the longing in the pit of his stomach and in the ache in his heart to leap on the train and drag her on the first supply ship her found and that scared him more then any grim reaper ever could. He glanced back at the letter spotting 2 words he hadn't seen before.
Burn this.
He smiled to himself as he reached for some matches. His mind automatically making links from this to the phoenix bird he loved so much, which he linked immediately to the fiery passion of Autumn he had only just begun to discover.
