The white walls collapsed on her, sending rubble and debris crashing around. She screamed, dust filling her lungs as she choked. Outside the walls was nothing. A dark, consuming blackness. She screamed louder, ignoring the pain when small bits of rock and dust fell down her throat. Small, echoing footsteps resounded in the darkness, making Janessa stop her screaming. Out of the darkness came a small girl. Her hair was about as black as the surrounding shadows, laying freely on her shoulders. Her piercing golden eyes had a cloud of hate glazing her eyes. She grinned widely, showing her perfect- and abnormally sharp- white teeth.

" Hellllllooo!" The girl mused, rocking back on her heels. Janessa froze when she climbed out of the rubble and heard the voice, clearly.

" I-i-it's y-y-you..." She said. When she saw the haunting voice materialized, she had a face to hate.

" Oh, stop with the damn stuttering." The girl said, her voice sending shivers down Janessa's spine. Janessa remained silent, staring with hate at her.

" You killed my parents. You killed my best friend." Janessa growled, tears threatening to appear.

" Me? A hallucination? Oh, heavens no! Impossible" She smiled, shrugging her shoulders exaggeratedly. " Or, at least, that's what they all think. I'm a hallucination to them."

" To them?" Janessa said, watching the girls ruffled brown dress dance around her ankles.

" Oh yes. You see, they can't see me. Your damned friend- Christian, was it?- can. The only one who can. See, a long time ago they took people who could see ghosts like me and slapped a mental illness on them." She said. " Now, about 80% of them actually were hallucinating, but the rest saw actual spirits. You're one of them."

" S-s-s-so I don't have schizophrenia?" Janessa stuttered. The girl laughed, the familiar echo resonating in the room.

" Well, Don't go around telling people you see actual ghosts. Better just to play along."

Janessa took it all in, the information swirling in her head.

" Wait. You're a ghost. Which means your dead. What happened to you?" She asked. The girl grimaced, looking down.

" I'll show you."

Soon, her dress was ripped and torn, dried blood stains covering most the dress. Her hair was matted, clumps of blood in it. Whip marks, hand marks, and faint chain marks covered most of her exposed flesh. In her stomach, a large stab wound was gushing blood. The girls right eye was mangled and cut, gushing blood. Janessa fought to keep her lunch down.

" Daddy did this." She said in a childish voice, although her voice had the familiar unplaced accent. " I only wanted him to love me. I tried to stop him...he was raping mommy. He-he-he killed her."

Janessa's eyes widened, and she blinked rapidly to get the image out of her head. Soon, the girl was back to normal.

" See you later!" She said teasingly. Janessa sat, startled.

Janessa woke, dazed. Her blanket was strewn on the floor, showing her that she must of tossed and turned more then usual. She sat up and looked at the clock. 2:57 PM. Janessa hadn't slept long during her nap, and she was surprised. She was extremely tired this morning, and expected to sleep a LOT longer. She sighed, figuring she should start her studies. Janessa grabbed the nearest textbook- Algebra. On it was a note of all her work.

" Pages 381-383 All

Notes on Chapter 16"

She sighed, getting to work. The work wasn't too extremely difficult, which relieved her. She put the work aside and grabbed her notebook, opening to an empty page and skimming through the chapter. She wrote down any vocabulary, formulas, and a few examples. She grabbed all the papers, slipping on slippers and walking to the nurse's desk. Angie sat behind the marble-topped desk, a magazine in hand.

" My algebra." Janessa said, setting the work on the desk and walking off. She didn't want to start language arts, or french, so she got on to her daily reading. She picked up Eragon and turned to her page. She was swept into the book, imagining every character, every scene, everything. She was soo occupied with the book that she didn't realize she had finished the whole book in less then thirty minutes, and she had a good 200 or so pages. Janessa sighed, setting the book down and walking to the bathroom connected to her room. Her hair was tangled, and Janessa picked up her dark black comb. She struggled to comb through snarls, but finally finished. Slipping on a pair of jeans, she walked towards the Game room. Trey sat in his usual spot, vegging out on Skyrim and eating Doritos. Janessa laughed, jumping on the couch by him.

" Hi." Trey said, preoccupied.

" Hey. " She replied, reaching over and snatching the Doritos. Trey jumped, reaching for them. Janessa laughed and held them out over her head.

" Give 'em back!" Trey laughed, stretching his arm out to grab them.

" Get them yourself." Janessa smiled, teasing him by swaying the bag back and forth. Trey snatched the chips and the two laughed, watching Trey kill dragons and act all badass when he did. The image of the little girl, beaten and cut, haunted Janessa.

" Hey. I've never heard you sing." Trey said.

" Random, much?" Janessa laughed. Trey grinned and kept playing his game.

" But seriously, sing."

Janessa sighed, facepalming and thinking.

" I hate feeling like this
I'm so tired of trying to fight this
I'm asleep and all I dream of

Is waking to you
Tell me that you will listen
Your touch is what I'm missing
And the more I hide I realize I'm slowly losing you

Comatose
I'll never wake up without an overdose of you

I don't wanna live
I don't wanna breathe
'les I feel you next to me
you take the pain I feel
waking up to you never felt so real
I don't wanna sleep
I don't wanna dream
'cause my dreams don't comfort me
The way you make me feel
Waking up to you never felt so real

I hate living without you
Dead wrong to ever doubt you
But my demons lay in waiting
Tempting me away
Oh how I adore you
Oh how I thirst for you
Oh how I need you"

Janessa kept singing, and Trey kept listening. When she finally finished, Trey nodded.

" Beautiful. " He said, smiling and looking at her. Then, he smiled devilishly and nudged her.

" Someone's got a crush on a certain someone." He said playfully, making her blush.

" N-N-no!" She said, her face a deep red.

" Well, It's obvious. Singing a love song when we all know who you like. " Trey laughed, making Janessa's eyes widen.

" Is it that obvious?" She asked, flushing. He nodded, and Janessa buried her head in her hands. They did hug once, but it was a spur-of-the-moment sort of thing. She had pushed the day out of her head, and she thought Christian did, too. Sighing, she looked at the television blankly. Feelings mixed with memories of the day and left her thoroughly confused.
