Tears of the Wolf

It was a quiet night, apart from the trees rustling in the wind. The sky was clear and the full moon shone brightly in the dark sky. A perfect night, thought a young woman as she looked over the forest from her spot on top of a small cliff.

Every night when it was calm and the moon shone bright, the young woman would come to her favourite spot and think.

A loud howl of a wolf suddenly cut through the silence of the night. A smile slowly formed on the woman's lips, revealing her sharp canines. Though, the rare smile on the woman quickly turned into a frown as the howling continued. Giving a sad sigh, the woman slowly sat down and dangled her legs over the cliff's edge. As she sat down a silver locket slid out from under her shirt. The locket shone a bit in the moonlight, catching the woman's attention.

"Knight," the woman sadly whispered as she looked at the locket. The locket wasn't that fancy, all it had on it was two names engraved into it on the front and a picture of a happy couple inside.

'Lyric and Knight' read the two names and those names belonged to the couple in the small picture. Lyric couldn't remember the last time she smiled like that; sure she would show small smiles now and then, but never a smile that showed all her sharp, white teeth.

Every time Lyric would look at the locket, she would always remember the good and bad times she would have with the light haired man in the photo. Images of her and Knight laughing would flash through her mind, but those images would suddenly end and be replaced with an image of a dead corpse lying in the middle of a blood covered room.

Snapping out of her thoughts quickly, Lyric went back to listening to the calming sound of the wolves singing their sad song to the moon. Lyric wished she could join them, but was afraid to give into her wolf instincts. So, all she did was sit on the cliff side as the cool breeze blew her thick black hair around her face as she scanned the forest with her blood red eyes.

After awhile, Lyric started to think back to when Knight was still with her and when the villagers didn't shun her as much as they used to. The first day that Knight spoke to her was the first memory that came to mind. Even though it happened eleven years ago, Lyric could remember it like it was yesterday.

It was another day alone on her favourite swing in the park. Never has anyone come over to swing with her, they were all too afraid to come near her. She couldn't blame them though, who would want to be close to a monster. A friendly voice suddenly interrupted Lyric's thoughts.

"Is this swing taken?" asked a light haired boy no older then herself. Lyric shook her head "no" as she looked over the boy. Why is he talking to me? Thought Lyric, no one has ever talked to her in such a friendly tone before. Wasn't he scared? Didn't he know what she was? The boy smiled over to the confused girl.

"I'm Knight Anderson, what's your name?" asked the boy.

"Lyric," she answered quietly. Knight still had a smile on his face as he heard her name.

" Do you want to be friends Lyric? I know it's no fun swinging by your self," said Knight in a cheerful tone. Lyric was shocked, never had she had a friend before. A smile creeped onto her lips as Lyric nodded her head "yes" happy to finally have a friend.

He was my first and only friend, thought Lyric, who was smiling at the memory. Lyric then thought back to when Knight gave her the silver locket.

Lyric couldn't help but laugh, he was so nervous. Though Knight quickly got over his nerves and clipped the locket around her neck. The words he said after made her heart swell with happiness.

"When ever you look at that locket, I hope you always think of me when ever I'm not around. I can think of you when the wolves sing their beautiful song that sounds so much like yours." Lyric didn't know what to say back, so instead she hugged him, showing how happy she was. Sadly, their happy moments together had to come to an end.

It only happened a year ago. Knight and Lyric had just moved in with each other and were enjoying every moment together. That night Lyric had to stay late at the veterinarian office where she worked at and Knight was at home waiting up for her. Lyric had gotten home around 11p.m. and guessed Knight was in their bedroom sleeping since she didn't see him in the living room. She had just opened the bedroom door and what she saw tore her heart in two. There, lying on the floor in his own blood was the lifeless body of the only person to ever accept her.

Time seemed to stand still; Lyric didn't know how long she had been staring at Knight's lifeless body. A high-pitched scream filled the air and then turned into loud sobbing as Lyric fell to her knees.

Tears were streaming down Lyric's face as she remembered that sad day. She didn't know how much pain Knight had gone through, but couldn't help but think how much it hurt him as the knife drove through his heart. More and more tears ran down her face as Lyric started to silently sob.

After Knight's death everyone felt sorry for Lyric's loss, but those feelings soon ended and everybody went back to ignoring her. I'm all alone again, thought Lyric. What she didn't know was that Knight was still with her, maybe not with her in person, but he was in spirit.

Lyric decided to join the still howling wolves. She needed to let it all out; she didn't care if anyone heard her she just needs to cry. Lyric threw her head back and sang her sad song to the moon as tears fell down her already tear stained face.

Please tell me what you thought about it. I'm thinking about writing an actual story for it, but I wont if no one likes it. Thanks for reading! :)
