You are my tree
You hold me tall, strong, like the firm trunk
The bark marred and broken
Like scars that never heal
Like all that was all too real.
*Like a tree, on the inside,
You are smooth and perfect
The gentle wondrousness
That cradles a big heart
But a fragile one
*Your branches are like a caress
As I walk through
I feel I may faint from the perfection
Your leaves fresh and beautiful,
A leaf for everything you say or do
*But most of all, you have roots.
Roots that dig deep into my heart,
Holding you there
Binding you to me
You are my tree
*And like a tree, you protect
In the winter, from the icy fog of rejection
That cuts me like a blade
And the whirlwind of snow,
That entraps me, like your arms
*In spring, from the rain of tears
And you protected the beginning of the flower
Let it grow deep beneath your leafy canopy
Even though it was not what was best for you
Nonetheless, you shielded us, though you wished I'd look away from the flowers
*Or in summer,
When passion scorched like the sun
Though when it tried to burn me
I would run beneath you, to hide
Though it burnt and withered you, you held on
*But of course, in fall, it died
And you comforted me
You held me, and cast rainbows of all colours
In your leaves that engulfed me
I needed my tree
*It was then I realized
I needed not a flower
Annual things
For a season that die
At first sign of frost
*No, I needed my tree
Something longer, maybe
Forever, beneath your canopy
I needed what I'd always taken for granted
The protection, the canopy, the shade and the beauty
*I needed my tree
To envelope me in its branches
To forever grow and never die off
Without me
So don't give me flowers
I want my tree.
Not written for anyone I know, just going to get this out there. i looked outside, and saw a tree, and had to write about it.
