Black.
Everything is black.
It had raged through, an inferno of red and orange,
leaving in its wake, an endless sea of charred ebony.
No birds sung, no leaves rustled.
Until one day, green broke though.
Quietly, slowly, inconspicuously, it grew, an island of colour in the darkness.
Tentatively, it all came back to life, growing into its former glory.
The flowers bloomed, an array of violet, pink and yellow.
The birds sung their melodies, the leaves rustled and whispered.
But underneath it all, there was only one thing.
Black.
