Maybe The World's Ending

I walked through the dew filled yard to my best friend, Casey's back door. Spring had finally made an appearance and filled our town with a blast of rain water. I couldn't be any happier about the change of season. Summer is the only fun month in our lame town. It is only an hours drive from quite a few fun lakes, where many of my friends have cabins.

"WHITNEY!" I high-pitched, squealing voice calls. I see Casey run from the back door and into my arms.

"Hi! I missed you too!" I laugh at her excitement. It's only been a couple hours since I last saw her at school, but she never lacks energy.

"Is Brooke here yet?" I ask walking towards her house, and out of the cool, evening air. Brooke is my other best friend. We're practically attached at the hip. The three of us are always together, especially on Friday night, when we always have a sleepover.

"Nope! She had to go to some dance thingy. She should be here is about and hour." Brooke is a dancer. She's constantly at competitions, which are usually out of town. She closes the door and we run up a couple flights of stairs to Casey's bright green room. It's suits her personality so well.

"Beeep! Beeep!" I hear my annoying phone ring from my jean pocket. I whip it out to see a text message from my friend Audrey. Audrey is my older brother's friend's twin sister. We only know each other from going to my brother's hockey games. We've grown pretty close to each other, even if she's a year older. And let's just say, her twin is extremely attractive.

"Who is it?" Casey sprawls out on her bed and throws a pillow at me.

"It's just Audrey." I say calmly as I open the message.

Audrey- Heeyy! So my brother's having this party, and he's been asking me to invite you... so wanna come?

"Oh my God!" I shout at Casey.

"What? Is the world ending?" She sits up and looks deeply at me.

"No, Duncan wants me to come to his party!" I shriek. I guess I could say I have a little crush on Duncan, Aubrey's brother. Or a huge one.

"What! You have to bring me! I want to meet this kid!" She throws more pillows at me. "When is it?"

"I have no clue! I'll as her!"

Whitney- Sure! I'd love to! But my friends coming, because she'll kill me if she doesn't get to come. When is it?

"What did she say?"

"I just sent to message, she hasn't replied yet, stupid!" Just then, my phone decides to ring and Casey shrieks.

Audrey- Yeahh, about that... it's tonight. If you don't show my brother just might kill me.

Whitney- Ok, I'll try to come! No guarantees. What time do you want me there?

"Ok, Casey, no freaking out. It's tonight. Call Brooke and make sure she's on her way." I say slowly to her. I want to remain calm, even though I'm about the burst in excitement. Duncan wants to see me. Me! Not any of the older, prettier sisters that have brothers on his hockey team, but me! I guess we've always had "something" between us. He sometimes flirts with me, and he's always super nice when we run into each other!

"OH MY GOD!" Casey runs to her closet and starts throwing clothes everywhere.

"What are you doing!" I rush into her closet after her.

"We need three stunning outfits! This is a high school party, Whit. High school!" She turns and yells at me then whips back around and keeps digging. So what if Duncan and Audrey are in 9th grade? It's not that big a difference from 8th grade! They were in our school last year!

"Relax, Casey. They're only a year older!" She throws a skirt in my face.

"Shut up and try that on." I scoff at the skirt.

"You're a freak, I hope you know that, Casey."

. . .

"Ahhh! I can't calm down!" Casey screams as she jumps into her older brother's car. He offered to drive us across town to the party. And by offered, I mean Casey's mom forced him.

"Casey, everyone there is going to think you're crazy. You need to contain your energy." Brooke lectures. She's definitely the calmer one out of the three.

"Yeah, Brooke's right." I scold. Casey shoots me a death stare.

"I'm not crazy! I just love life!" Casey reaches over and blasts music.

"Casey, put on your freaking seat belt, or we aren't going." Her brother, Brody, yells over a new Rihanna song.

"Nope! YOLO!" She yells holding up a peace sign.

"YOLO is for douches." He reaches across and buckles her seat belt. Then, he backs out of the driveway and speeds down the street, obviously desperate to get rid of his sister.

"Slow down!" Casey screeched as a sharp turn slammed her into the window. She started laughing hysterically. Brody slowed down and I looked out the door and recognized Audrey and Duncan's dark brown, stucco house.

"Ok, out you brats." Brody snarls from the front.

"Thanks!" Brooke and I say in unison. We crawl out of the car and Brody zooms off down the road. I looked up at the house in front of me. There were plenty of unfamiliar people loitering around the property.

"Let's go!" Casey takes off to the front door. Brooke looks at me reluctantly.

"Are you sure about this?" Brooke whimpers. She looks very nervous.

"Sort of, let's just go."
