History of Eatgrlan

The Beginning (10 AC- 29AC)

Every nation has a beginning, all differencing from each other. The beginning of this nation was made on hard work, sacrifice, and pure hope. The leadership that was made and the loyalty of the people have run through the veins of every citizen of this nation and have developed into the best nation that ever existed.

Loppendon

This is the original town from which the nation was born out of. This town was nothing special to the eyes of anyone, living there or not. It was a regular town located by the ocean. They were fishermen and trades people. They did not have much to defend themselves, except for a small guard division.

The Storm

Around the year of 10 AC a storm ravaged the coastline, destroying many cities and leaving many others in terrible conditions. It ruined boats, which is what most cities used as means to feed themselves. The town was laid out in ruins, but they were used to storms and began to rebuild their town.

Goblins Attack

During the rebuilding of the town, a pack of goblins came running into the town. They had already passed through several towns, taking advantage of the storm and weak structure to take what they want. They did the same to Loppendon.

The goblins broke into houses and killed those who did not give up their belongings willingly. They also began to burn down houses and other building that they could not get into. By the time the goblins left the town, it was even worse than it was before.

By the result of the recent events, some of the citizens in the town wanted to leave. They did not want to be in a constant state of worry while goblins came through their town and destroy everything they had built. They packed up their belongings and said good-bye to those who wanted to stay. It was clear that those who had stayed despised those who left, believing that they were cowards.

Exodus

Entering the World

As they left their town, the townspeople moved north, trying to find a suitable town to stay at. They knew that any town near the coastline would not accept them. After the storm, no town would like to take in a bunch of refugees, especially if they were also attacked by a group of goblins. Another reason they did not want to stay by the coastline was because all the cities there hated each other.

They continued walking forward until some began to show signs of fatigue. Normally, they did not understand what was going on. The land that surrounded them was the same as their home, but it lacked the necessary refreshing winds that came to them by the sea. They were now out in a desert that they were not properly equipped for.

The sudden realization had led some of the townspeople to begin to panic. The panic was stopped by a few guards who had come with them, to make of sure safe passage. The guards feared panic; because they were sure it would spread like a goblin outbreak. By the end of the first week, they were nice and out in the middle of the desert, still wandering, not knowing where they were going.

Troubles Ahead

As the second week of their travels began, uneasiness and uncertainty began to spread. The constant heat of the day had caused most of the townspeople to drink up most of their water and began to take others water while they were not looking. Not only has trust been demolished between the civilians, but it also seemed the guards had lost all hope in finding a town and began to make demands. They called themselves the 'rulers' of the group.

Not long after the proclamation of their superiority, did an argument break out. A civilian had been caught stealing water from another. A guard came over to investigate, but it was over before he could interfere. The thief had died of dehydration. And like an elf's enchantment, everyone began to panic at the same time.

The screaming and the kicking of dirt had brought attention from an unknown enemy, one who did not leave the comforts of the desert. These creatures came out from the sand. These creatures used the already chaotic group and added more chaos from their recent appearance to attack and remove several people and drag them away.

One guard, the future creator of Eatgrlan, Lantag, managed to save a few people from the creatures. It is said that from that point on the creatures were to be called Sand Terrors, in English. His bravery against the random creatures had led the people to believe in the guards again, even if some were taken away as well.

Great Barrier

Two weeks after the attack from the Sand Terrors, the townspeople were sent up against another challenge. They met with the largest natural phenomenon in the world, the Great Barrier. The Great Barrier is a large, ongoing sandstorm that covers a third of the nation. The mere presence of the Barrier caused panic. It has been recorded that Lantag had spoken to the people to calm them down. By miracle, they had arrived at the Barrier at one of the most bizarre moments of its life. Every fifty years, or so, since it never happens on exact dates, the sandstorm ceases for a week.

Believing that the disappearance of the sandstorm was an act of the gods, the people walked blindly into a deadly trap. They walked for a week, not finding any source of water or good place to settle down, and the death count had mounted. After the sandstorm arose from its dormant state there were suicides within the group. Luckily after just a few more days of walking they came across a town, located by a lake.

A Change of Scenery

The village that they had spotted was protected by a layer of magic that stopped the sands from blowing into the town. The magic also protected the lake to prevent it from disappearing. The new town let the weary wanderers into their town with open arms. Thanks to the generous offer the townspeople put down their guard and walked in.

The peace allowed for everyone to calm down and enjoy their lives. In the first time in a long time they began to smile. However things only happen for a moment and move on. The town was no exception. After the townspeople were led into the town there were rumors that were passing along that they were going to be sacrificed, these rumors soon reached the ear of Lantag.

Lantag, self-proclaimed leader of the group, held a meeting with the leader of the town to see if the rumors were true. After what had been recorded as two hours and fifteen minutes, Lantag had his suspicions confirmed. It was said that they needed sacrifices to protect the town against the Sand Terrors that came each week. If an offering was not made, the Sand Terrors would attack the town, killing and stealing bodies.

It was said that Lantag, out of gratitude to their hospitality, was going to play the role of an offering, but was intending to eliminate the threat. After he spoke to the rest of his people, telling them what he was going to do, he gathered up some guards, armed themselves with their weapons and set off to find the Sand Terrors. As they left one of the guards spoke to Lantag, warning him of the bad feeling he had of the leader of that town.

'Surprise' Danger

It is not known how long it took for the guards to be attacked, but it was estimated to be around four minutes. The Sand Terrors came out from the sand, their preferred method of surprise attacks. There was a small battle, but the blinding sand gave the advantage to the creatures.

After being dragged away unconscious, as what happens after the abduction, they were led into the Sand Terror campgrounds. However, many of the guards did not make it to the camp as they were either killed in the short battle or eaten along the way. According to text, Lantag was placed inside of a hole, accompanied by an elf. The other guards were already being chopped up and being grinded into meat.

It has been said that Lantag made his way out of the hole using the bones of elf that was with him. Though there is no physical evidence of that ever happening, it is still seen as an undisputed truth. After escaping from the hole, Lantag went on to slaughter the creatures. It has seemed that the Sand Terrors were not used to being attacked, as they were always the attackers.

Traveling back to the city, Lantag had placed one of the Sand Terrors clothes on, to protect himself from the raging winds. He also took some water to save him from any dehydration. Since he did not know his way around the desert, especially after the sand cloudy his vision, it took him four weeks to find his way back to the village.

Betrayal

Returning after barely surviving his encounter with the Sand Terrors, Lantag expected a ceremony upon his return. He was greeted with spears and swords from the local population. It can be seen why they would do that, since he was wearing the clothes of a creature they feared deeply. Lantag removed the gown to show that it was him; this however did not cause the weapons to be placed down.

He was carried off to the leader of the village. There was a short explanation of what had happened. While the guards were away, the townspeople who came looking for salvation was turned into slaves. Before anything could be done, chains were placed on Lantag's wrists and he was carried off.

Changing of the Tides

After a year of oppression, the townspeople from Loppendon decided that it was time to shed their chains. However, some of them wanted to stay. There were no signs that the slaves were treated badly, it was just the thought of being a slave that made them so upset.

Freedom

Ever since they were enslaved there were always talk about getting out of there. Months have been used to plan the escape. Many smaller attempts have been made to escape, all had failed, and all of the escapees were hung as a warning. This warning did nothing but made the resistance grow ever stronger.

One night, the plan was set in motion. The townspeople broke free of their chains and began to run out from their holdings. To make a better escape, they stole weapons and water. They did not have enough time to gather food, as it was stored in separate rooms. Also, for added effect to show their victory, they began to burn the homes.

Like every escape based upon violence, this one was also subjected to resistance. The guards of the city came and began to cut down the escaping slaves. The women slaves were tackled to the ground and were dragged across the city back to their holding cells. The children were killed in front of their parents, but at the end fifty slaves escaped into the Barrier.

A New Home

The new slave escapees were unable to navigate through the blinding sandy desert. Many wandered off and were never heard of again. The heat of the day added with the searing pain of the sand that was cutting their exposed flesh made many die. Death seemed like the only option for those who had escaped.

After five weeks of moving throughout the sand, one of the townspeople spotted a cave. The cave was large enough for them to fit inside and would give many hope of protection. It would have been many, if they did not die off from the heat, or were killed on several Sand Terror ambushes. The only people who made it to the cave, which were able to move on their own and was not close to death, were Lantag, Lalkice, Jujkan, and Jar.

Once inside the cave, Lantag, and the three women that accompanied him collapsed upon the floor. Each disfigured slightly from the harsh winds that ripped across their bodies. Inside the cave was a large pond of fresh water. It was said that this was the water that had caused corruption within the four survivors. That theory has been debunked for a long time, since it is the main water source for all the citizens living in Eatgrlan today.

The First Months

During the first month of their new lives in the cave, life was tragic. They had no food and starvation began to kick in. Instead of having a group of starving people on his side, Lantag cut off a few of his fingers and gave them to the women to eat. He declared it a small sacrifice for creating something larger.

After being fed with such little nutrition, Jar decided to explore the cave. It wasn't large, but there were a ton of hiding places which could have held some food. It was then where the discovery was made. A pack of elves were located near the end of the cave. An unusual finding, even for today's standing.

Elves usually do not go to the desert, and even when they do they do not go past the Great Barrier. There are two explanations that researchers are still trying to figure out. One of the possibilities was that they traveled into the desert and passed by the Barrier while it was down and got stuck in there. The other possibility was that they were runaway slaves already in the Barrier. No definite answer has yet been reached.

Elves, despite their human similarities, were not considered humans but animals. The elves were slaughtered quickly, as they are a non-violent race. The meat from the elves was used to feed the survivors and their bones were turned into weapons.

Creating a City

In order to create a city Lantag ordered to build a few buildings, but since none knew how to create a building and did not have the necessary tools, they could not create it themselves. Instead they moved towards the city that had robbed them of their citizens.

In order to properly move to and fro from their new home, they began to study the land. They used the stars that they could see as a guide. It took an estimated time of four weeks to successfully complete their reconnaissance of the land.

Population

For every city to be well established it would need to have a population one that would not only be four people. They moved out and used the darkness of the night, with some help of using Sand Terror tactics of travelling under the sand to move up to their targets. They moved to each city they found, all located near the lake, since it was the only source of sustainable life in the Barrier.

Every city was looted and some lives were lost. The main goal was to gather people for the new city. They only killed those they did not find to be any use, i.e. town leaders.

Architecture

To hold a better place to live at, those captured from the cities built homes. These methods and ingredients were gathered thanks to the carpenters. The buildings were only small houses that were made to fit only three people. However, with such limitations this would have caused the city to be expanded greatly, but there was not enough material for that.

It was not until they had more material that they were able to create more homes and buildings. A large one, the place where the Emperor now resides was built upon the cave and all entrances were sealed off to prevent and disruption with the flow of water.

Walls were also built. These walls were not used to block out the sand that was the purpose of the magic shield. The wall was made to stop any Sand Terror attack. Every year they were enforced to insure the stability and to prevent any attack from foreigners, though they did not know of any foreign powers at the time.
