What Nobody Knows

Chapter 1

My name is Aubrey Dawn Evans, but when I was nine I had my mom change my name to Ailsa (Al-s-uh) Dawn Evans. I'm a total country girl from a small village that is so small it doesn't have a name. I know you're probably thinking that, that isn't possible, but in a town like this it's common all over the world. I have pail greenish blue eyes and straight copper color hair that comes about four or five inches past my shoulders. The population isn't big at all but that's a good thing if you're me. You see I am fifteen, and found something major out on my fourteenth birthday. Turns out I come from a long line of vampires and witches. Ever heard of the Salem witch trials? Well my mom's side of the family was killed then. Well not everyone but most were. My dad's side is vampires and my mom's side is wizards and witches.

I'm still learning about my magical abilities and being a vampire. I'm not like most vampires you see on fiction shows and movies. I can be out in the day light, but I do get a little sleepy. Plus unlike those "vampires" who don't sleep at all I need at least three hours of sleep or I can't control my powers. My dad is in the U.S Army and will be station in some un-known country for the next year and a half, so I live with my mom. My mom was shocked to see she had a baby with a vampire because that is only a 1 in 1,000th chance, but there are only 2,958 vampires in the world including me. Plus that would also means I can't have any brothers or sisters which is kind of a bummer, but is way okay for us because I can turn to my mom for almost anything. The things I can't tell me mom I tell my four best friends Kayleen, Jenelle, Jace and Kyle.

Jenelle and Jace are vampires as well while Kayleen and Kyle are wizards. We all go to a special school for the "gifted" which is any kind of "magical thing". The school helps us deal with our powers and abilities. There is only one other vampire and witch like me in the world. That person is Acelynn Mattison. Nobody talks to her though because she is a major gothic, loner, antisocial, cutter. She has long, straight, black hair that comes down to her butt and has pail, ice cold blue eyes. She wears tank top and short shorts all the time which show her scars and cuts form her cutting. She has two mid-purple strips dyed in her hair and three blood red strips. She is nineteen turning twenty and she is only a junior just like me and my friends. We don't have kindergarten, so we start first grade a year behind most normal schools, but that's the thing…we aren't normal.

"Hey girl what you been up to!" Kayleen asked as I walked into homeroom.

"The summer is over and that means fewer horseback rides more 'power training' so I am pretty bummed."

"Think positive you can drive this year!"

"The town doesn't even know we are here. Kay this school is a secret just like our lives. If anybody knew who we really were then we are screwed."

"That's why it's a school for the 'gifted', so nobody knows who we really are. Plus humans are not to step foot in this school!"

"Yeah I guess..."

"You okay? You don't seem to be the normal happy cheerleader I knew!"

"I have cheered since seventh grade Kay, and I don't know Matt and I broke up last week and he was...ya know special to me."

"Ohhh you mean you two-"

"Shhh! Keep your voice down! But yeah twice and then a month later he broke up with me."

"Well you gotta think he is twenty, now in the Navy and oh yeah A HUMAN!"

"Shut up Kay not all humans are bad."

"Says the girl who swiped her V-card to one," Kayleen said sarcastically.

"Oh shut up!" I said with bright laugh and huge smile.

I really miss my friends, and I have a feeling this year is a new beginning for me. Full of new things and new changes and new...people?
