Demons and Angels

Wicked Turns

Chapter One

What if you were suddenly being hunted? What if it was because of something you saw? What if you had to leave your family because of it? What if you were only 13? Would you run, would you fight? What if all you could do was to wait? To wait for the cold hand of death to end your fears, your misery, your pain, your life, and the endless nightmare that came with it. This is how the nightmare began, the way it ends? With you, well really me, staring into the cold, endless abyss, which serves as my soon to be killer's eyes . . .

Two months earlier.

"…lor? Ms. Taylor, what are you doing?" Mr. Harmon slammed his books down on my desk, causing me to jump out of my chair. "Sorry sir!" I wiped the drool off of my chin, "Well that's embarrassing." Mr. Harmon just sighed, and told me not to fall asleep again. Haven Harris leaned over her desk and tapped on my paper, "Jeez Sarah! That's what, your 5th time that you've fallen asleep in class?"

Ethan Messick, who was on the other side of my desk, just shook his head and said, "Close Haven, but it's actually been 12 times today." He then proceeded to take notes on the lecture Mr. Harmon was giving. Haven just shook her head and started to draw.

I will admit my friends are pretty good looking, Haven, with her dirty blonde hair and green eyes, she's what you would call a bombshell blonde. Ethan has neat, medium cut brown hair, deep chocolate brown eyes, and square glasses with no wire on the top. He has this one piece of hair always sticking up in the front, and we always tease him about it, telling him he has a cowlick.

He always gets mad at us and tells us that he's not an anime character. That's the other thing; he's always into new animes. I don't know how he can balance school, and T.V, he has the highest grade in all of our classes. He's what you would call a "hot nerd". Me, on the other hand, I'm just a mess. I have unnatural red hair, I mean it's natural and every thing, it just came out extremely deep. I wear yellow contacts, yes I know it's weird, but I hate the fact that I have brown eyes with red hair. So the contacts are a way that I can feel better about my eyes.

Haven is great at drawing, I envy her most of the time because of it. She can look at anything, and she'll be able to draw it perfectly. Ethan on the other hand, kind of sucks at drawing. Getting strait A's and 100% on tests are more his forte`. I'm kind of ok at drawing, I mean I have my moments, but what I'm really good at is writing. I have journals filled with stories that I've started, stopped, then started again.

I'm currently on hold with my stories because my parents are trying to make us Catholic. You see, in this town, the people that live here are highly into religion, and it's often frowned upon if your not in a religion. I'm not saying that I'm anti-Christ or anything, it's just if you've spent twelve years of your life never going to church, you kind of get pissed. So far, I've been rushed to and from church, I was ten minutes late to class today because of it. Tomorrow I have to get baptized with "holy water" and the works.

"Ms. Taylor! What do you have written down?" He grabbed my paper, and proceeded to read it out loud. "Pre-algebra, lesson 8.3 . . . This is it? This is all you have? I've been speaking for over 30 minutes and this is all you have? DETENTION!"

Ethan just shook his head, looked at me sadly, and locked eyes with Haven. Haven then gave me the same look as Ethan, and did some thing I thought they could never do. The threw pencils at Mr. Harmon. To you it might not seem so bad, and you probably don't understand why I'm freaking out about this but the never, ever do anything remotely bad.

The pencils hit their mark, Mr. Harmon's balding head, and they bounced harmlessly to the floor. He slowly turned around, his face was steadily growing red. "Who threw it?" He bellowed. "Well? Who did it?" He rounded on me, "Was it you? Trying to get back at me for giving you detention, eh? Well let me tell you! Once the principal knows about this, you'll-"

"I did it." Mr. Harmon turned around with a look of total ludicrous on his face. Derrek Smith, a blue eyed, raven black haired boy that just moved here, stood up, taking the blame for Ethan and Haven. They physically bristled, obviously not liking the guy.

I've seen him at the church that I go to, as it turns out, his parents own it. They apparently can make a pretty good chunk of change from it.

Ethan had this weird look in his eyes, it seemed to be filled with hatred and fear. Ethan then proceeded to stand up and threw another pencil at Mr. Harmon. "He's lying, I threw it."

Derrek shook his head and glared at Mr. Harmon. "Look, Ethan, I appreciate that your trying to cover up for me, but this fat ass," Mr. Harmon looked as though he was going to explode at the insult. "Gave me a 'B'. So, I needed to get back at him for it. So, Mr. Harmon, do I get a detention?" Mr. Harmon then operated, as if in a trance, filling out the detention slips for Derrek and myself.

"Ethan! Hey Ethan! Wait up!" He turned around and stared at me questionably.

"What's wrong Sarah?" He reached out to steady me.

"Thanks, but nothings wrong," I assured him. "I was just wondering on why you freaked out when Derrek Smith offered to take your punishment." Ethan shook his head and sighed.

"You wont understand, Sarah." He replied. "It's much bigger than you think, so I recommend that you don't get involved, you'll only end up getting hurt."

That made me mad, no one can tell me what to do, and what not to, except me! "Look here Ethan! I might not have many friends, but the one's that I do have, I wont let them treat me like a piece of sh-"

"Also," he continued, cutting me off. "I know that you and Derrek are having detention together, so I will give you one last piece of advice; stay away from him, he's dangerous." With these last words, he rode off on his bike with his coat billowing around him like a cape.
