The girl holds her head up high,
Her little brother screams and cries - his mental deformity too much for him,
Her mother yells with fits of rage - she never gets a break,
Her father disappears from her life - his second wife is better,
Her grandma goes crazy with depression - there are too many deaths for her to cope with,
Her stepdad screams out in discouragement - nothing is good enough for him.
The girl tries not to break down every night - she forces herself not to cry,
Do they know she's breaking?
Do they realize how dysfunctional her life is?
She takes the blame
Accepts the consequences
Defends who she loves
Follows the rules
Does what she believes is right
The girl stays strong
The world may be falling apart
She doesn't care
Alis volat propriis
She flies by her own wings

Author's note: I haven't been posting my writing on FP because I've been considering publishing my poetry. But I really don't see that happening anymore, so I figure I might as well post something that's been on my mind for a while.
