In the 1990's, the government hired a group of scientists to perform experiments in order to create a group of super-humans. However, after only five years of working, the project was canceled when it was discovered the experiments were being done on children. The scientists were furious, and stole all equipment necessary to continue their project, which is exactly what they did. They traveled the world, adopting young children from orphanages, even kidnapping a few, all in order to use them as test subjects. They took all of the children and equipment, and settled in a remote area in Canada.

They had collected thirty-six test subjects. These test subjects, while being experimented on, were also trained to be very physically fit, healthy, and educated. The group also grew very close in their fourteen years of captivity. They even came up with a name for their captors, the Faculty.

One day in 2011, while experimenting on a test subject, a boy by the name of Percy, the test subject revolted. Percy tried to escape from the laboratory, and in his attempt, something went wrong. There ended up being an explosion, one with extremely high amounts of radiation. There were only seven survivors, all of them test subjects. They freaked, and escaped to California.

It wasn't long before all of the members of the group discovered the explosion had changed them- they all now had powers. They all settled in Sacramento, and changed their names. A boy eighteen years of age with pale skin, black eyes, and spiked, platinum hair with the newfound power of control of luck named himself Dyce. Toni was the new name of Dyce's seventeen-year-old girlfriend who had wavy, wild red hair, bright green eyes, pale skin, and the power of mind and emotion control through her voice. The seventeen-year-old boy with ghostly pale skin, white eyes, pitch-black hair, and the ability to grow black angel wings that allowed him to fly was now Poe. The fifteen year-old with fair skin, blonde hair, and purple eyes named herself Lavender, to go with her ability to control plants. Rami was the name given to the tan, sixteen-year-old boy with brown hair, black eyes, and superhuman strength. The petite sixteen-year-old girl with short blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin, and the ability to control water was now Aquanette. Lastly was Terenita, Percy's seventeen-year-old twin sister, who like Percy had brown hair and eyes, with tan skin. Only she now had the power to control earth.

Dyce used his new power to gamble his way to becoming a multi-millionaire, paying for a large and expensive house, cars, and anything else the group wanted. They rest of them enrolled into high school, and pretended to have normal lives. However, at home, it was a power extravaganza.
