BROKEN BONDS
As the bonds break
And slide away
The skin chafed and sore
Freedom sucked in
With each new breath
And yet find myself wanting more
Scars crisscross my back
And burns mark me
As the slave I am no more
The markings have taken hold
On my body but not my core
There is no difference
Between you and I
Save these broken chains
Skin color, god, even our name
All are the very same
No different am I than you
No, the differences are too few
Just a simple thing or two
Now freed I must find me again
Or slave am I still
