I guess you could say my life is pretty normal. Both my parents live together, I have an over protective older brother, and a best friend for life. What's not normal is that my parents are always on business trips and are almost never home, my ex-boyfriend, James (the jackass) Olsen keeps trying to get back together with me, and my older brother's best friend, Quinton practically lives at my house. Other than that, life is pretty sweet.

"Hurry up Katie! Quinton is waiting outside waiting for us!" David yelled, pounding on my bedroom door.
"Calm down! I'll be out in a minute!" I hollered back. Today is the first day of school and I always like to look nice on days like these. I'm finally going to be in high school. David knows it takes me a while to look as nice as possible, and he usually hates school. I have no idea why he feels the need to rush me.
I quickly put my dirty blonde hair into a side braid, finished putting on my make-up, and grabbed my brand new Aeropostale bag off of my desk chair before heading downstairs to the front entryway where David was standing with his arms crossed waiting for me.
"Why did you take so long to get ready?" He asked me while opening the door.
"You know it takes me a while to look nice, David." I replied. "Why are you so excited to get back to school anyway?" David grabbed me by my elbow and practically dragged me down the sidewalk to where Quinton had his truck parked on the side of the road. I squeezed into the front seat of the truck next to Quinton and David got in next to me. Quinton started driving before David answered my question.
"I'm meeting Missy by the front door. We're going to walk to homeroom together." He said.
"Cheerleader Missy?" I asked him.
"No, Missy the librarian." David said jokingly. "Yes cheerleader Missy."
"David and Missy sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N" David leaved over me and punched Quinton in the arm.
"Knock it off Quinn." David said.
"I was just joking around with you, man." Quinton said rubbing the spot where David punched him.
"You know it's true though, David." I laughed. David just rolled his eyes.
Quinton pulled into the school parking lot and parked the car in the first spot he could find. We all got out of the car and walked to the front of the school. A short, animated girl came jogging towards us as soon as she saw us. Her blonde curls bounced with every step she took. That would be Missy. From what David told me, she is supposedly the prettiest, most popular girl in the school. He said that every guy in the school wishes they could date her. When she reached us, she smiled brightly at David and grabbed his hand.
"Hi David!" She said. I rolled my eyes and grabbed Quinton's hand, dragging him away from David and Missy.
"Quinton, can you walk me to where I'm supposed to go?" I asked.
"Of course, my lady." Quinton said, bowing. I put my arm through his and we started walking. Walking through the halls, a lot of sophomore girls gave me dirty looks. I guess seeing a freshman with her arm through one of the hottest sophomore guys' arm is pretty shocking to them. It didn't bother me though. It's not like I have any feelings for him. We're just friends and I'm like a little sister to him. He has two older brothers and a little brother so I guess I'm as close to a sister as he's going to get.
We walked through the door to a small courtyard area. I saw my best friend for life, Tristen with her boyfriend Alex and unwrapped my arm from Quinton's'.
"Thanks Quinton. I'll meet you at your truck after school. Hopefully David won't have Missy with him." I said.
"No promises." He said. I laughed and ran towards Tristen. I snuck up behind her and gave her a tight hug.
"Katie!" Tristen turned around and returned the hug.
"I missed you Tristen!" I said. I turned to her boyfriend Alex and gave him a hug too. "I missed you too Alex." He laughed and pushed me away from him.
"Sorry Katie. My free hugs are for Tristen only. For you, they cost five bucks." He said.
"Nice try Alex. But you're not getting any money from me." I said. He crossed his arms and pretended to pout. Once Tristen gave him a hug he stopped acting mad. He bent down and kissed her. I turned around and covered my eyes.
"Whoa guys. Not around me, please." I said. Alex laughed and pulled me towards him.
"You know you're just jealous, Katie." He said. I pushed myself away from him and put my hands on my hips.
"I am so not jealous Alex." I said. A loud whistle made me turn my attention away from Tristen and Alex and face the noise. An older lady with glasses and her grayed hair pulled into a tight bun was standing by the door with a whistle in her mouth. All of the talking stopped and everyone turned to face her.
"Listen up freshman!" The lady called. "I am Mrs. Engle, your counselor. Do all of you know your homeroom teachers' name?" There was a chorus of yeses from everyone. She started talking again. "When I call the name of your teacher, please line up in a neat line in front of me." She read off the first name and a group of kids walked over to Mrs. Engle.
After a few more teachers names were called, my homeroom teacher's name was called. I said good bye to Tristen and Alex, told them I would see them later, and went to line up. I felt someone tap me on the shoulder when I was in line and turned around. Behind me, my ex-boyfriend James was there. He had a sly smirk on his face and his tanned arms were crossed over his chest.
"Well this is just perfect." I sighed. He laughed and put his arm around my shoulders.
"You act like us being in the same homeroom is a bad thing." He said. I moved his arm from off of my shoulders and crossed my arms.
"Don't touch me James." I hissed. "And it is a bad thing."
"Aw. You know you still love me." He said. I rolled my eyes and turned away from him.
"Leave me alone and shut up. I don't want to talk to you." I snapped.
"Fine. But you will see me again. Don't forget that you are mine, and you always will be." He growled, and walked away.
This is going to be one long year…
A/N: Hey everyone! This is my first attempt at a romantic comedy so please be nice. When you review, how about adding how you feel about the characters so far? Does James sound mean enough? Is Katie kind of bratty? I will be adding more with attitude from Katie so if you don't think there is enough attitude, trust me. There will be lots of attitude from her.
This story is going to be updated by reviews. The more reviews I get, the faster the updates will get.
