The Tree
New life comes
Springing out of the ground
Life is then nurtured and
Begins to grow
Leaves begin to form
And beautiful blossoms
Cover the face of the branches
Pretty, Young
Spring
Many moons go by
Many suns rise
And the Tree begins
To bear fruit
Starting as little seeds
But then developing new qualities
And taste
A luscious green cloaks brown
The trunk is strong
And the bark is firm
Winds gust and the sun beats
But the Tree holds still
Summer
Now, a brilliant green
Morphs to a subtle yellow
Orange and red
Speckles of warm hues
That now show the changing of time
After a long period
Of continuity
Fruit no longer falls from
The Tree's limbs
Youth begins to fade
One by One from the Tree's limbs
Autumn
Now Cold winds and ice
Have come to inhabit the land
And the Tree loses its warmth
All leaves to protect it are gone
And its bare branches break under
The weight of snow
This white blanket coats
All of the Tree's limbs
Top to bottom
And the Tree fades
From a subtle brown
To a strong gray
Until nature proves too strong
An adversary
Winter
