Author's Note: takes place in late July of Lisa's freshman year and Belen's sophomore year. (School year is September-June)

Belen watched as her legs swung back and forth as they dangled off of Lisa's bed. It was after school, and as usual, they were hanging out. Belen looked up as Lisa walked into the room carrying two glasses of water. Belen took one, took a small sip, and placed her glass on Lisa's desk. Lisa simply held the glass, staring down into it. Belen frowned, wondering if something might be wrong, until she remembered something. She cleared her throat before beginning to sing, grabbing Lisa's attention.

"Scared of losing all the time, he wrote it in a letter, he was a friend of mine, heard that you could see your future, inside a glass of water, the ripples and the tides, and he asked, could I see heaven in mine?"

Lisa looked back down half-way through, which only made Belen more worried.

"It's called Glass of Water. It's by Coldplay."

Lisa didn't respond, and Belen bit her lip nervously as her brain scrambled for ideas. Then it occurred to her that Lisa might be staring down at her reflection. Or, wishing she could, as Lisa was legally blind and the whole world was just one big blur of colors.

"Do you remember," Belen began, startling Lisa, "those pictures I showed you once of post-its?"

Lisa simply nodded, and Belen held in a sigh as she continued.

"One said 'Inner beauty, too, needs to occasionally be told it is beautiful' and 'Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light shining in the heart'. But you know what, that isn't entirely true." This seemed to attract more of Lisa's attention.

"Sure, we all love being told we're funny or intelligent or kind. And we've always been told it's what's on the inside that counts. But to honest, I think it's outer beauty that's ignored more than inner beauty, mostly." Belen nodded then, as if agreeing with herself.

"How so?" Lisa asked.

Belen barely contained a happy grin at being able to make her speak as she went on.

"Well, isn't it much easier to just list a whole bunch of random good traits you can find in a million people? It's harder to honestly look at someone and find all the beautiful things about them that no one else has because no one else in the world looks like them."

Lisa had now turned to face Belen, giving her girlfriend her full attention, and Belen kicked her shoes off, sat cross legged on Lisa's bed facing her, and grabbed the girl's hands. The two were now looking at each other eye to eye, and Lisa watched as those eyes slipped down and took in her whole appearance.

"You know very well that the moment I lay eyes on you, I knew I'd never want to leave your side. But even now, when I've seen you so many times and spent so much time looking at you, you still take my breath away every time I look at you. You already know that your eyes are magnetic, and that mine lock onto yours every time I come across them.

"But let me also tell you that every time I look over to you, whatever face you're making, whether you're looking at me or not, I look at you and, without exception, I always think, 'Wow, she is just the cutest and most beautiful girl I have ever seen.' Oh, and your voice. In a sea of millions, I could make out your voice clearly and loudly because it is the most addictive sound I've ever heard, and part of the reason I'm usually so quiet has to do with the fact that it's a pleasure just hearing your voice.

"And you know what, I'm sure you've heard 'Your eyes are pretty' and 'Your hair looks great today' and 'You have a very nice voice' plenty of times, but every time I so much as glance at you I am completely taken away by your beauty, and I feel the need to tell you all this. I hope you don't live another day without knowing for sure that every time you look in the mirror, you are looking at the face that gives me butterflies and makes my head spin and makes me thank all my lucky stars that I have been graced with your presence. And now I'm gonna stop talking because I've been babbling on for so long you're probably annoyed with me."

Belen sat there for a long time, blushing deeply, staring down at her lap, feeling like a total idiot for having all that spill out of her mouth, until she felt a finger under her chin slowly lifting her head up so they were looking each other straight in the eyes again. Belen knew Lisa wasn't one to try and communicate with words as much as Belen was. Belen was very happy and satisfied with the simple response Lisa gave her.

Lisa smiled, leaned forward, and kissed Belen, removing her finger from under Belen's chin and instead wrapping her arms around Belen's neck. Belen was more than content putting her arms around Lisa's waist and slipping her tongue into the younger girl's mouth.

Lisa's action was worth a thousand words.
