Hi everyone! So I thought it would be cool to do a SYOC! Here is a sample of my writing and what the inn looks like! Enjoy! :)
There is a house in Maine. It is settled somewhere along the coast, in a very small town. Seemingly a ghost town to a passerby. This house is actually an inn, but it doesn't look like it, just like a large house. This inn is not like any normal inn you have been to before. In fact, it can only be found by those who do not want to be found themselves. You must be lost enough to accidently stumble upon it as well. The town it resides in is an age old town that blends in with the land a vice versa to the point they have become almost one. It hides itself well and the citizens are covered in a thick blanket of its secrets. The inn is just like the town-old and mysterious.
The road that you have been following for what seems like an eternity finally takes one last turn and down a hill. You took a wrong turn miles back down a back road you thought would be easier than going through all that traffic. You are overjoyed at the sight of a couple of houses after that long drive through the woods. As soon as you complete the turn, you are suddenly going over an old, green bridge about 10 feet above the water. The light green is spotted with rust everywhere and the paint is chipping. On the right is a huge dent in the fencing that juts out over the water. You drive past three very old New England style houses that are all white. Once has a red barn next to it. On your right comes up a convenience store with two gas pumps out front. Currently, nobody is using them. The store seems to have a lot of chipping white paint, but other than that looks relatively good. The posters on the windows advertise cheap milk and lots of candy. Almost directly across the one-lane narrow road is the inn.
The first thing you notice is the fact that it is on a tiny hill and it has just rained so the bottom of the hill in the front yard is completely flooded making a nice bath for a mother duck and her ducklings. On the top of the little slope is a tall white wooden flag pole and an American Flag waves in the cool breeze. There is a front porch about six feet wide that runs the length of the house. On it sits wicker chairs and a couch that are looking weather beaten, but comfy. You drive up a little bit then pull into a long, black driveway that leads up to a white barn with two windows upstairs and black shutters. The large barn door is closed. You park your car and walk up the three steps onto the front porch with light blue wooden planks beneath your feet. You open the new screen door then the old heavy white door and walk in.
You are immediately hit with noise as you walk in. Then bell as the door swings shut behind you. The sound of the T.V to your left. People talking. Children playing. Dogs barking. Pots and pans in the kitchen. This place is more like a boarding house than an inn. You are greeted and given a tour of the downstairs. Right now, you stand in a narrow short hallway with a steep staircase on your right and cabinets on your left. On the top of the cabinets are pictures of people you do not recognize and paintings of more unknown people hanging on the walls. The entire floor is covered with a tan, soft rug.
You go through the open doorway to your left. That room is the living room. The walls are painted a soft blue and the floors are pine with long, wide planks. Nothing you see in houses anymore. They are rough, and have holes and scars from the trees used to make it still intact. An area rug is in the middle. There is a small T.V with antennas in the corner as well as a rocking chair, two sitting cushioned chairs, and a three person couch. The room is very crowded with the side tables, chest, and computer table. Yet, it gives of a comfy, homey, feel.
To your right is the public dining room and the return of the tan rug. This room consists of only a table with enough room for about 11 or 12. Then if you take another right, you see a door that leads to the kitchen, but it is currently closed. So, you are handed a room key and sent back into the hallway.
You take the creaking rug covered stars and let your tired hand rest on the dark wooden, sleek railing. Once you reach the top, you look to tour left and see more of the rug covered hall. In this hall is two doors on each side and one door on the end leading to the rooms and a public bathroom on the end. Looking straight ahead, you see a slightly winding white staircase with landscape paintings on the walls going up. At the top, there are two rooms-one to your left and one to your right. They are only hidden by a thick, study curtain. You don't stay up here long, though because it is dark and gives off a haunted lonely feel. This is going to be an interesting stay.
So, what did you think? The character form will be in the next chapter and you can send it in by PM and they might be chosen to be part of the story! :) Thank you so much!
