AN: This is the first time I've ever done something like this, so go easy on me, yeah? This was kinda a spur of the moment thing, but instead of Mary, I imagined myself in her place. That's how I've come up with the whole plot line and everything.

So yeah.

Enjoy. :)

Chapter 1

I slowly wake up to feel the sun shining through my curtains and onto my bed, and to the birds chirping happily. Hm, maybe today will be a good day. "MARY GET DOWN HERE NOW BEFORE YOU'RE LATE!" Then again maybe not.

"Coming!" I reply as I'm getting dressed.

Fantastic. Another day of school. I'm practically jumping for joy.

I walk down the stairs as slowly as I can, but as soon as the smell of eggs and bacon drift toward my nose I finish off the steps two at time. "Good morning mom", I say groggily and give her a peck on the cheek. Did I mention I hate waking up early in the morning? Well, now you know. "Breakfast smells delicious mom. Thanks."

"Oh, did I mention that you'll have to bike to school?"

I nearly spit my apple juice out at that. "WHAT? WHY?" I probably screamed so loud the neighbors are already calling the police.

"Because, you know your father, and how he's trying to save money. Plus it'll be good exercise for you", she says while winking at me.

Great, this day just keeps getting better and better.

As I make my way into my first class of the day, after I chained my "awesome, new and hip" bike, as my parents like to say, I thought once again that today might just turn around for me. I'm not one to lose hope so easily.

I take out my book to read, as this is English class and hide my face behind it and "pretend" to read. Our teacher Ms. Kim just let's us do whatever we want as long as we shut our mouths. "Man, I'm so bored", I mumble to myself as I look out the window and get lost in my thoughts.

Why can't my parents just understand that I have this dream. What's so hard about understanding that I want to be a singer. Yeah, I would gladly take over my mom's little shop downtown. WHEN I'M 50. Why do my parents expect so much from me. I'm already in the top 5 at school and have straight A's. But no. They want me to be a perfect little daughter and take business or whatever as my major and live the rest of my life as a boring old cranky lady, who'll probably end up so cranky that she'll be forever alone.

Okay, I don't think I'll turn out like that when I'm old. I mean look at me. I'm awesome. But you get what I'm trying to say. I just want to live my life! But it'll take a miracle to convince my parents. Trust me, I've tried and tried again. But it's only once ended up with me running away. Okay maybe twice. But I had a good reason to. They ganged up on me an-

The bell ringing snapped me out of my thoughts.

I was just sitting down at a table in the cafeteria when my best friends, Krystal and Cynthia plopped right across from me. Oh, I forgot to mention that I have Math 2nd period and Science 3rd period. But nothing happens in those classes and I would probably bore you to death telling you of just how bored I was.

"So I was thinking that this weekend we could all go to my cousin's party!" Cynthia's cheerful voice always got me, and well, almost everyone around happy no matter what.

"Oh my gosh! That's sounds really fun! Will there be alcohol and stuff there, 'cos this week of finals has definitely got me tired, and I just need to unwind." Krystal is always up for alcohol, no matter the consequences. "Oh! And I heard there was gonna be KAAAARAAAAOKEEE!"

"Yeah, Mary, you should really come with us. It's not like we would drag you against your will or anything. But COME ON! There's gonna be karaoke!" That bad thing about Cynthia was that you could never say no to her.

"Ugh, fine. If it makes you guys happy."

So, it was the night of the party. And I was absolutely dreading it. I can't believe I let myself get roped into this.

"Come on Mary! Have a shot! Live a little would ya!" Krystal says while handing me an orange flavored drink, then another and another.

And the rest becomes a blur.

Gah, why is it so bright. And why is this couch so hard. It doesn't feel like the couch at home. And why do I hear people talking to loud. Ugh, don't they know that it's way too early for this. Especially when you're me and have MAJOR hangovers the next day.

As I reluctantly opened my eyes I take in my surroundings. A big oak desk with a tall black chair and a huge window, with a really nice view I might add, behind it. The chair reminded me of those movies with the Mafia bosses or whatever and they sit in those big chairs and spin around and say "I've been expecting you" Man I've always wanted to do tha-

Wait, why am I in an office. Last time I remember I was at Cynthia's cousin's party and oh gosh.

"Man, this party is kickin'! Don't ya think Mary?" Krystal shouts over the music, hopelessly drunk.

"Hell yeah it is!" I reply. I can't believe I didn't want to come to this party. Krystal was right. Having a few shots totally calmed me. I feel like I'm on top of the world! And no I'm not drunk. I've only had 10, no 9 shots, and a few beers! But hey, who cares! The only thing that would make this better would be some KAAAAARAAOOKEEEE!

Cynthia seemed to have read my mind and dragged me and Krystal over to the karaoke machine set up in front of the house.

AHHHH YES MY FAVORITE! I grabbed the mic and sang for who knows how long.

Oh, now I remember how and why I'm in this office.

Just as I was finishing the last song a guy dressed in a business suit, waaay to formal for a party, comes and taps me on the shoulder.

"Excuse me miss, but you don't happen to be signed to a record label do you?"

Pah, in my dreams. My parents would kill me the moment they found out that their "precious little girl" has signed onto a record.

"No, it just so happens that I am not. Why are you asking?" I say while quirking an eyebrow up.

"Well come with me and I'll make your dreams come true"

Ugh, geez. I don't remember what right mind I was in to have followed this guy.
