Forever

We could live forever,

Believing wholeheartedly

in one single fact,

then wake up one day,

and realize

it's all a lie.

We could live our lives forever,

thinking everything is fine,

perfect, even,

then someone says a simple phrase,

and it all shatters apart,

never whole again.

We could be together forever,

perfect strangers,

then we let slip a word,

as deceptively simple as 'hi'

and we will never be the same again.
